Gun Control Let me be clear, I do not support gun ownership or the right to walk around carrying firearms. I feel that there should be extensive laws for gun enthusiasts. There should be a set number on how many weapons; a firearm owner should have in his or her home, especially if there are children involved. Also, United States Government needs to thoroughly check every person’s background extensively, following as far back as teenage behavior. People with even the slightest hint of a mental problem shouldn’t be allowed a gun. There should also be some kind of test individuals should have to take in order to obtain a gun in any state. (”Guns and Mental Health”) Shootings are becoming a normal daily occurrence. There are people like myself that would like stricter gun laws because there would be less gun violence. These laws would save lives. The science of how the mind works should also play a large role in who in the United States can buy guns. Scientists state that a human being cannot correctly, make decisions for him or herself until the age of twenty-five. (“Guns and Mental Health”) The legal age limit to drink is twenty-one so why not up the age an individual can carry a gun? Therefore on that fact alone the law should not allow a gun to anyone under twenty five. Also, both guns and alcohol can impair the way one thinks. In addition, anyone with a violent history, starting at a young age should be barred from owning a gun. Guns end lives; surviving from bullet wounds from guns is like a million and one chance of possibility. I know people who own guns. I have been around people who have carried guns on them. I’ve touched a gun, had a gun touch me, scare me. I’m not afraid of guns, but I know the power they hold. Each bullet tells a story leaving, a never-ending river of blood, murder, and death. Every bullet is an evil symbol, a grim reaper, but some think they stand for the safety and protection of one’s life. America needs to wake up and put an end to gun violence.
