Gender roles are a completely overrated aspect of life through the eyes of society which govern the lives of others accordingly, making them live up to the standards of others. Gender inequality is something that has been going on for decades and, even though it hasn’t, is something that has been needed to get eliminated for years. My whole life I’ve been judged by members of my family because, to them, I do not act or dress how a young lady should. Trying to change people will often make them feel insecure and be unhappy with themselves because not all men and women are the same. According to Nancy Davis and Robert Robinson, authors of Men’s and Women’s Consciousness of Gender Inequality “Nearly a quarter of a century has passed since the feminist movement began a resurgence in the United States in the mid-1960s. Within a few years, second-wave feminist movements had sprung up throughout Europe. Although the specific causes underlying these movements differed from country to country, a common factor was a growing awareness of gender inequalities in the workplace and home and a growing belief that these inequalities were sufficiently unjust that they should be eliminated. Gender inequality tries to limit people to things they should and shouldn’t do based on gender but even in the past, man and women violated the guidelines of society. When I was younger my mother would make me wear dresses and put bows in my hair but because I was so rough, I would always rip the dresses and lose the bows. I didn’t lose them intentionally but my personality just didn’t coincide with those things. So no matter how many times she tried to cover up my boyish ways, it never worked.
