Frankenstein Essay Stem cell research has been a highly debatable topic that incites great emotion among people. Stem cells are cells that are able to convert to any cell in the human body. They may greatly help with people that cannot or have difficulty reproducing. Additionally, they might also be the key to safer prescription drug use. Stem cells could also help ease the worries of patients needing organs for surgery. Recreating organs is now possible due to the research. Stem cell research, to which an extension is Frankenstein, will be beneficial to society and especially the medical world. Stem cells will open up a possibility for same-sex couples and sterile couples to have their own biological offspring. The embryo will only contain the donor’s genes instead of a merger of genetic material from two humans. Sterile couples could finally receive their long sought after dream of having a child since only one person is needed to conceive the baby. It will be possible for couples to have their own child even though both the partners are the same gender. The couples will be assured that their bloodline(s) and genetics will be passed on to the future generations. They would often argue that humans should never tamper with nature because it is immoral. How can people against stem cell research use that argument knowing that most of the domestic animals that have been around humans for decades, such as dogs, have been tampered with by breeding specific species to create new a completely different (or mixed) species. Non-supporters would also argue that a large amount of human embryos die due to stem cell researches. Vouchers of stem cell research contend that natural pregnancies actually kill more human embryos than stem cell
Frankenstein is a horror movie that tells the story of Dr. Henry Frankenstein’s experiment. In search for the fame and glory of playing to be god, he reaches a point where he is able to revive dead people. In this version of Frankenstein’s monster we see a selfish and careless scientist that created a creature with his intelligence. The way the character is shown reflects how ambitious someone can be to reach to be known in the world. This movie makes the people who are watching to feel empathy on the poor creature. This poor creature that did not want to live in a life where everyone is going to hate him for having a horrible aspect and not following rules that he has no idea about.
Is it possible for one thing to have such a negative impact on a person? Because of his creation, Victor Frankenstein was a recluse who did not tell anyone of his creation because he regretted creating it. Although this may be true, Victor only wanted to do good and help humanity by bringing loved ones back to life. In order to create life, he isolated himself from his family to work on his experiment. After the monster committed homicide several times, Victor could not tell any sane person the truth. And he felt guilt because his loved ones died too early and at the hands of his scientific advancement. To conclude, isolation, secrecy, and guiltiness are prevalent in the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
As a response to the Enlightenment movement in 18th century Europe, Romanticism gradually began to undermine the way people thought about human consciousness and nature itself. Appreciation of the natural beauty of the world and pure, human emotion bloomed in Europe as Romanticism’s influence grew ("Topic Page: Romanticism”). Romantics valued Individualism and thought that being close to nature would make them closer to God (Morner and Rausch). People also searched for solace in nature to overcome the adversities and cynicisms that followed the French Revolution ("French Revolution."). Because stem cells are essentially a blank slate, scientists are theoretically capable of growing any human tissue cell. There is enormous medical potential in this. Stem cell research is the next step in advancing the medical field. It is comparable to the discovery of penicillin or the inoculation for smallpox.
In the novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, the main theme revolves around the internal and external consequences of being isolated from others. Being isolated from the world could result in a character losing his/her mental state and eventually causing harm to themselves or others. Because both Victor Frankenstein and the creature are isolated from family and society, they experienced depression, prejudice, and revenge.
The ethical issues behind the method in which stem cells are obtained out weigh the benefits of stem cell therapy. We should not try to play God, in the aspect of creation of living beings just to be sacrificed for the “betterment of mankind”. Many egregious acts have been committed under the guise of “the greater good”. This is one instance in which the ends do not justify the means.

As time goes on, many things tend to change, and then they begin to inherit completely different images. Over the years, the character, created by Dr. Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s famous novel, has changed dramatically. The monster, regularly called “Frankenstein,” has been featured in numerous films, such as Frankenweenie and Edward Scissorhands. Although, the characters in today’s pop culture and the monster in the well-known 1800’s novel have similarities, they are actually very different. The many similarities and differences range from the character’s physical traits and psychological traits, the character’s persona, and the character’s place in the Gothic style.
Critic Northrop Frye says, “Tragic heroes tower as the highest points in their human landscape that they seem the inevitable conductors of the power about them, the great trees more likely to be struck by lightning than a clump of grass. Conductors may of course be instruments as well as victims of the divine lightning”. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein greatly exhibits the theme of the consequence of knowledge and irresponsibility among others through its tragic hero, Victor Frankenstein. Northrop Frye’s quote is certainly true when looking at Frankenstein’s situation. Victor is a victim of his divine lightning, and ultimately causes much trouble for himself; however, Victor also serves as the tragic hero in the lives of the monster, his family, and his friends.

Many positions can be taken on who is right and wrong or what should or should not be done in regards to many hard, life decisions. The position that I stand for deeply is the fact that Victor Frankenstein should not create a new monster for Adam to take comfort in. There are many reasons as to why it would be a bad idea but the top four I have come up with are the following: The new creature may not like Adam, Adam was never showed love so he will not know how to give his companion any, both of the creatures will live for human interaction so no matter what promise they make they will not be able to stay away from people, and last but most importantly Adam is the person that killed Victor's brother.
Many people know that Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, was part of a family of famed Romantic era writers. Her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, was one of the first leaders of the feminist movement, her father, William Godwin, was a famous social philosopher, and her husband, Percy Shelley, was one of the leading Romantic poets of the time ("Frankenstein: Mary Shelley Biography."). What most people do not know, however, is that Mary Shelley dealt with issues of abandonment her whole life and fear of giving birth (Duncan, Greg. "Frankenstein: The Historical Context."). When she wrote Frankenstein, she revealed her hidden fears and desires through the story of Victor Frankenstein’s creation, putting him symbolically in her place (Murfin, Ross. "Psychoanalytic Criticism and Frankenstein.”). Her purpose, though possibly unconsciously, in writing the novel was to resolve both her feelings of abandonment by her parents, and fears of her own childbirth.
In gothic novels tragic figures are symbols of pain to the characters. Victor Frankenstein brings misfortune to his loved ones, which concludes to his overall tragedy. Ironically the monster in this novel is Frankenstein the creator not the creature. He has seven victims including himself and his fall is due to his ambition to be superior.
By applying research from cloning normal cells to cloning stem cells, a wider range of people can be helped, and the cost of procedures will be lowered. Scientific research into cloning will allow doctors study how to safely replicate
The theme in a piece of literature is the main idea or insight on characters. Most pieces of literature do not limit itself to one but many other themes all collected into one. This is just like in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. This horrifying story was produced in 1818 and has several themes that she portrays throughout. The theme of dangerous knowledge is unmistakably seen theme in Frankenstein. In Frankenstein we see this theme through three of the main characters, Victor Frankenstein, Robert Walton and the creature. We can see how their desire for knowledge can take them places and show them eventually what they are looking for. Sooner or later it will take them to dangerous and unwanted places. The desire for knowledge can eventually lead one to its grave. Victor Frankenstein’s scientific endeavor, Robert Walton’s search for the North Pole, and the creature’s kind heart but scary features creates this theme of dangerous knowledge.
