Over the last One hundred years planes have changed our lives giving us much faster travel and helping us in war. These planes have changed drastically over the year not only how they look but how they are flown. In the beginning these jets were relatively simple with a few weapons but now have turned into full war machine. They have been vital with how we approach warfare and attack the enemy. The technology they use to operate these jets is very high tech and makes flying them a lot safer and easier. Also the way a pilots train to be able to fly one of these jets has become more extent however, more expensive because of this. In addition the cost of these jets has greatly increased but putting this money into these air crafts could do great …show more content…
These jets are not cheap what’s so ever. We’ve got the cost of manufacturing, the training for them and maintenance to make sure everything is functioning properly on the inside and out. “The Air Force spends $14,183 an hour to fly a single F-35A, according to the 2015 Department of Defense Budget. That's just in peacetime training. Budgeting 13 hours of crew time per month that equals $2.2 million a year, for one crew's training. When its F-35 training program is fully running in a few years, Luke will have 144 of those planes. Each squad on the base will be made up of 24 aircraft with several hundred support personnel” (Gray). This just shows that spending this kind of money could be a bit expensive and impractical. It’s crazy to think the government is spending that kind of money on jet training, but this could be the key to our success in the future. The cost of having these air crafts has been more expensive than any of the experts expected. The DOD expected to spend nearly one billion dollars to be able to reach their production rate of one hundred and forty-three air crafts a year but in order to do this they would need an additional 1.2 billion dollars just in tooling upgrades (Global Security). They are spending an outrageous amount of money on these F-35s even though there are doubters in this project. According to Col Michael W. Pietrucha, “Using Afghanistan as an example, we simply could not have afforded to deploy or employ F-35s in the fashion that we employed F-16s and F-15Es—based on the operation and maintenance (O&M) costs or the fuel consumption.(Space and power Journal). The cost of this could be well worth it in the long
For as long as most of the world can remember aviation has played a major factor in how wars are fought. Starting in World War I the worlds fighting forces began using aircraft to conduct surveillance missions over enemy territory. While these aircraft were not the masters of stealth that todays aircraft are there was no technology to take down these planes at the time. Air-to-air combat was an event that rarely happened and was almost never effective.
In today’s world, the use of airplanes in wars or in everyday life has become a part of how we live as human beings. Removing the air forces of the world is like taking a step back in time when wars were only fought on land or sea. WWI began only eleven short years after the Wright brothers achieved powered flight in 19031 and yet aircrafts were being used for surveillance and eventually combat purposes. It is understood that these aircrafts were primitive, but they laid down the foundation for what we know today as fighter jets. The Fokker Eindecker “revolutionized air combat by successfully employing a synchronized forward -firing machine gun mounted on the engine cowling”2. Because this airplane became the first to successfully use a synchronized machine gun, it allowed its pilots to become the first aerial combat tactitions3.
The history of flying dates back as early as the fifteenth century. A Renaissance man named Leonardo da Vinci introduced a flying machine known as the ornithopter. Da Vinci proposed the idea of a machine that had bird like flying capabilities. Today no ornithopters exist due to the restrictions of humans, and that the ornithopters just aren’t practical. During the eighteenth century a philosopher named Sir George Cayley had practical ideas of modern aircraft. Cayley never really designed any workable aircraft, but had many incredible ideas such as lift, thrust, and rigid wings to provide for lift. In the late nineteenth century the progress of aircraft picks up. Several designers such as Henson and Langley, both paved the way for the early 1900’s aircraft design. Two of the most important people in history of flight were the Wright Brothers. The Wright Brothers were given the nickname the “fathers of the heavier than air flying machine” for their numerous flights at their estate in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Orville and Wilbur Wright created a motor-powered biplane in which they established incredible feats of the time. The Wright Brothers perfected their design of the heavier than air flying ma...
In the 1900's, transportation and weapons became important for the different wars that the United States were involved in. Planes were one of the most significant inventions in the 20th century. Being able to fly from place to place was a new lifestyle for America's military. In World War II, military planes were a huge part of the war, and without them, many things that happened, would not have happened. As America was getting involved with Japan, they needed a more powerful plane. That plane that they needed was known as the B-29 Superfortress. The B-29 had a greater impact on Japan than any other plane because of the amount of destroyed resources in Japan, the most destructive firebomb in history, and the dropping of the first atomic bomb.
The United States is facing a large military budget spending issue with the Department of Defence reporting a cost of around $525.4 billion this past year. Washington Posts announced that, "The United States spent more on its military than the next 13 nations combined in 2011." While military spending is a large part of the government budget, and there is enough room to reduce spending as long as there are a set of precautions of which necessities the government cannot cut.
The cost of the personnel has increased to nearly an unsustainable rate since 2000. Wartime funding was increased over inflation but the personnel has dropped. That being said, the defense spending in 2015 will be about $600 billion or 3.24 of the GDP. The defense budget pays into not only base defense, but also to veterans, civilian and foreign military aid. Each of these expenditures go into the percentage that the government is allocating to defense. Contrary to popular opinion, the money does not strictly go to weapons and military personnel. Health and care for military and veterans alike is on the rise. Retiree pay and benefits comprise the DOD spending for veterans. As discussed, funding for defense is important when it comes to sustaining our country and being a competitor for war

During World War One, the role of airplanes and how they were used changed greatly. At first planes were only used for sport, but people started realize that not only could airplanes be useful but they could even influence an outcome of the war greatly. Soon the war was filled with blimps, planes, and tethered balloons. By the end of the war, planes became a symbol of fear, but they were not always treated with such respect. In the time leading up to the war, the general feeling about planes was, they were a sneaky, unfair tactic that should not be used in warfare.
The United States is an extremely affluent country, however, the U.S. government does not allocate its funds correctly. The government spends entirely too much of the budget on military spending. A segment of the military budget should go towards education. Education is completely undervalued in America and is often pushed to the side in political debates. Conversely, several of the top-ranked countries in education are also flourishing economically. Even though the U.S. is struggling to compete in education, the government has all but given up at this point. There are no signs of increased education spending or a decrease in military spending. How is this country supposed to continue to grow and move forward if the citizens
Planes have developed immensely through the years. The Wright brothers developed the first plane in 1903.
The U.S. military is a strong force and body that protects and serves the American people. Many people support the military and some even disagree with it. What people forget is that without a military the U.S. would be totally over run by foreign countries claiming ground. The military also helps with the nation’s economy boosting the balance of money in the works. Families have trouble with members who serve since there is always chance that they never return but it is because of their service that we are still a free country. Even though the military causes pain to families when a loved one is lost, the U.S. needs a military because with a military the economy increases and that without a military we would be invaded by a dictator or foreign
"The soldier is the Army. No army is better than its soldiers. The Soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country” (-General George S. Patton Jr). Here within our borders we are the lucky ones, we have been blessed with the pleasure of so many brave men and women; to volunteer in the world's greatest military; and put their lives on the line for something that they believe is a moral obligation. But, think of some other countries, that have conscription (the practice of ordering people by law to serve in the armed forces) laws. We as a nation have some laws on conscription, and if you are male and above the age of 18 you have already signed the slip of paper stating that in the time of war; if our great nation re-instated the draft then there is a great chance you will be serving on the frontline of the next Great War. This brings me to my first topic of this page, is it ethical to have a draft? My second topic that I will discuss will be on if it is morally acceptable to "draft dodge". What I mean on the second topic is if you have a right; that morally allows you to not go fight in the war.
One Time article describes the F-35 as “a poster child for Pentagon profligacy in a new era of tightening budgets. Instead of the stars and stripes of the U.S. Air Force emblazoned on its fuselage, it might as well have a bull's-eye. Its pilots' helmets are plagued with problems, it hasn't yet dropped or fired weapons, and the software it requires to go to war remains on the drawing board. ”(The Most Expensive Weapon Ever Built). The development issues are constantly prolonging the development program, costing the government more and more money.
Drones will help reduce cost of funding the military. Drones will replace different types of supplies and weapons. There will no longer be a need many military tanks. With the money that the government saved on the army, the government could use that money more useful things that can benefit the future of the country in a good way.
The invention of the airplane, ever since it was invented in 1903 has impacted the world in many ways. It has increased the job rate, boosted the economy, created cultural diversion, and created less pollution than most means of travel. Orville Wright once said, “The airplane stays up because it doesn't have time to fall.” The airplane never did fall and excelled in everything it did, not falling once. The airplane, one of the most important inventions created in the 20th century, impacted travel ways across the world.
