Privacy concerns are becoming more and more prominent as the world continues to advance methods of surveillance. Drones are one of the most advanced methods of surveillance and the number of them is growing rapidly. The FAA predicted that there will be about 10,000 civilian drones in the US in the next three years. (CNS News)
Drones are becoming more and more accessible to people all over the world. They are relatively cheap and one does not currently need a license to fly one. This allows civilians and government officials alike the ability to safely survey people from above. This number is inflicting real concerns about privacy on people everywhere. As of right now, there are very few regulations on the number or use of drones.

“Pilots around the United States have reported a surge in near-collisions and other dangerous encounters with small drones in the past six months…” (Whitlock). These close calls are occurring more frequently and are more of a problem than previously thought. On January 26, a drone crashed on the lawn of the White House. Although the drone crash was an accident, it is still causing concern regarding the safety of the president and the general public. Regarding this incident, Senator Charles Schumer said that “There is no stronger sign that clear FAA guidelines for drones are needed," (qtd. in Reuters). On December 1, 2013, Amazon announced their idea to deliver packages in 30 minutes or less using drones, called Amazon Prime Air. This idea seems like science-fiction, but there are issues regarding safety which is why it has not been launched yet. There is the possibility that the drones would run into other aircraft in the sky or that the drones would not land on the ground. The FAA is working on getting the drones ready for flight by the end of this year. The general manager at Amazon, Dave Graybeal, says that "The FAA is the biggest hurdle," (qtd. in Albany Business
