In today's modern world, climate change is the biggest threat our population is facing as a whole. Climate change today is occurring thanks to technological advancements made by humans. Every time someone drives a car, builds something in a factory, or even heats and cools their home, gases are released into the air. These gases cause our atmosphere to rise in temperature which is the source of the changing climate. Some individuals may brush this idea aside and claim there is no big deal or that the weather is just changing. However, climate change affects every creature on planet Earth, including the survival of the human race. Humans rely heavily on our environment for survival. It has brought humans together like nothing else. It has allowed people to put their heads together to advance the human race greatly. With the creation of large societies, people have gifted themselves with more food, medicine, shelter, and increased life expectancy. On the other hand, society has forced people into a state of conforming with their surroundings, which has taken its toll on the ecosystem. Grandparents do not ask their teenage grandchildren if they are going to drive. Instead they ask when will they drive. Trying to survive in the modern world without a car is a very strenuous task. Society also puts a vast amount of pressure with always being connected. Without a device able to connect to the internet, one is bound to fall behind of their peers. This causes almost everyone in society, thanks to people essentially becoming clones of each other, to own a car and phone which contributes vastly to the carbon footprint. The carbon footprint becomes extremely noticeable in areas where society is at its greatest. In Las Angeles, the gigantic city “is expected to warm by 5 degrees on average [by 2050]” (Karlamangla). That five degree increase is thanks to society. It may not seem like much, but overtime that will add up until Las Angeles becomes a unlivable desert. Society essentially causes people to conform into “clones” of each other that drive cars and buy cell phones which cause climate change All of the pollution caused by these devices is released into the atmosphere above the city. Since it is a city and many people live there, greater amounts of pollution will be present due to more cars and technology. The more pollution, the more the Earth heats up and climate change occurs. Advocates who want to halt Earth’s changing climate can benefit by following the Transcendental philosophy of “society demands conformity, and conformity kills the individual” (Major Tenets of Transcendentalism). Without society and the
