"Time to get up, time to get up, let’s go let’s go,” yelled my nine-year-old cousin Kevin as he pulls off my warm blanket. The harsh cold of the Wisconsin Cabin wakes my 10 year old body up instantly. On any other day I would unleashed a fury of strikes to his chest that would leave him gasping for air, but on this occasion I gave him a pass. I leapt off of the top bunk bed with a grace and agility that is second only to members of the cat family. The cabin’s filled with radiant hues of red and orange from the dawning sun. The savory smell of honey glazed ham filled my lungs and my mouth began to water. Food is the last thing on my mind. My job was to assist my cousins with the daunting task of waking every single person in our 9 room cabin rental. It’s Christmas, but it won’t officially begin until EVERYONE’S present. Every other year my family comes together to celebrate Christmas. The adults have managed to set strict rules: children go to sleep by midnight, adults stay up cooking, drinking and playing card gams and most of all no presents are allowed to be opened until everyone is in the big room. This year we rented a nine-bedroom cabin in Warrens Wisconsin and 29 family members are in attendance. …show more content…
It took us over 2 hours to clean up the mess that only took 10 minutes to create. Once we finished, my grandmother spoke about the value of family. We all crowded around the Christmas tree listening to her. She remained us of the reason that we are all there. She pointed out some of life’s ups and downs as she remained us not to judge our lives by a single day or year. She forced us to reflect on our blessings as only she can do. I looked around and saw an endless sea of smiles as everyone took in her words of
Have you ever been away from someone so long and then with them for so short of a time, but in that time you see how wonderful this person is, and they leave a mark on everybody they meet, see or touch. The thing is this person has a big problem despite how many people they touch on the outside world, the truth is their family is falling apart …you’d never think this beautiful person has a dysfunctional family. This is a story about a lady I can call grandmother her name is Ms. Carolyn Ruth Norwood. My grandmother is a no nonsense person when it comes to her small family she always wants us to do our best in whatever we’re doing no matter what; I’ve always enjoyed having someone to motivate me with humor. It amazes me how the world works because
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones
In "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes a transformation as a result of his encounters with three ghosts and becomes a kind, happy, and generous man. His greedy, cruel, and grumpy demeanor is replaced seemingly overnight, but he doesn’t just wake up and decide to be nice. It takes three Spirits to change his outlook on life - The Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Future. The Ghost of Christmas Past makes Scrooge begin to regret his selfishness, and the Ghost of Christmas Present begins to teach him about others. This second Ghost helps to make him realize that money doesn't buy happiness. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, however, teaches the most profound lesson of all: unless he changes, no one will care if Scrooge dies. Because of the Ghosts, by Christmas morning Ebenezer Scrooge is a completely different person from the man who went to bed on Christmas Eve.
Once they were back home, they sat at the dining table and started to eat the food. After 30 minutes her Aunt called and asked her to bring over some food. When she walked over to her Aunt’s place the air was colder, but still fresh and crispy. Once she was inside her Aunt’s place she sat down at the kitchen table and said hello to her cousins and Aunt. After grabbing a glass of water from her Aunt’s refrigerator her Aunt asked her to take care of her cousins while they went out to pick up food. She gladly said yes, even though she didn’t want to, but she knew she couldn’t complain and say no. After 10 minutes her Aunt and Uncle left to pick up the food from Boston Market and she was left alone with her cousins. When her Aunt and Uncle came back they started to cook and the house was filled with the smell of turkey, ham, pumpkin and apple pie and mash potatoes with gravy. At 4:00 pm her family came over to her Aunt's place and said hello and sat down at the dining table and waited for the food to be finished cooking. Once the food was ready they all sat down and said thank you to her Aunt and Uncle for cooking the food and talked with each other while they all ate the creamy warm mash potatoes with gravy and the warm and juicy ham and turkey. After everyone finished the food they all enjoyed the sweet and creamy pumpkin and apple pie. After finishing the dinner, everyone said goodbye
Christmas is a very exciting time of the year, especially for children. With the festive season approaching here are a few ideas of how to keep the kids entertained before the big day.
Last Christmas (2017), my mom, my grandma, and my uncle got in an argument about how Christmas should be run this particular year and when everyone should be asked to meet to enjoy the holiday as a family. The thing that made this Christmas different than all of the past years of my life is that my uncle had two new babies, who were born just a month before Christmas. This changed his own family's dynamic dramatically and forced him to think of the needs of two more people in his life. In past years, we would meet as an entire family for Christmas morning, an event that included getting about twelve of us in the same room at the same agreed-upon time so that everyone could go spend time with the other factions of family they have later in
The whole family would also make a big feast to eat together as a family. However, why do people do all this on one special occasion such as this? Christmas exists mainly because of Jesus Christ and the Romans. Many Christians accept the popular myth that Jesus Christ was born on December 25th, which is why most Christians celebrated Christmas on December 25th. However, it wasn’t fully Christmas until the romans came along and gave us most of the Christmas Customs we know of today.

Christmas is where we celebrate Jesus’s birth. He is the reason why we celebrate it in the first place. Each year is different, but there is usually snow on the ground too.
