We spend an unnecessary amount of time trying to perfect our physical appearance: we are filled with disgust towards our imperfections and chose to conceal them through unnatural techniques. Why are we ashamed of our flaws—something that is natural? The animosity we feel towards ourselves is caused by the way the media choses to glamorize the “perfect” individual. The “perfect” individual is shown as the true form of beauty; however, it does not accurately portray the true citizen of society. The establishment of these unrealistic beauty standards have caused campaigns like the Lane Bryant “#This Body” to shine a light upon the women of color and different physiques. The women displayed in the campaign don’t have the perfect body, the perfect appearance, or the perfect legs. Many of the women that are shown in the campaign possesses different physiques or different ethnicities that establishes a sense of diversity. These women are confidently seen wearing various forms of undergarments that clearly exhibit their breast, hips, curves, cellulite, stretch marks, or rolls. Instead of being ashamed in these “revealing” outfits; they chose to boldly display the sense of love they feel towards themselves through their body language.
