Animal Abuse
In 1991, a ten year old boy killed his eight week old puppy by stabbing him in the rectum with a pencil. He was then convicted of juvenile court and counseling for a year (Cindy A. Adams, “America’s Abuse Problem”). This is the sad awful truth of what happens to animals everyday. Animal abuse is a big problem in our society and there are varying degrees of this issue including intentional abuse and animal hoarding but, there is one very clear solution and that is to report it to the police and get the animal legal justice. Animal abuse is a very big part of many animals lives and because of this we need solutions for this situation. Animal abuse has taken many forms, the most common forms are passive abuse and intentional

Intentional abuse is when someone is purposely doing something to hurt an animal. This type of abuse commonly causes wounds in animals. Intentional abuse happens normally when someone takes their anger out on an animal this is also known as “Homicidal Tridel” which is very common in teenagers and is a sign of psychological problem. Although people are not physically hurting the animal it is usually still classified as intentional abuse issue to this animal abuse an example is dog fighting. It is very common for the dogs to be raised in isolation and with lots of heavy chains and steroids to enhance their muscles (“The Criminal, Underground World of Dog Fighting” ). Horses are also affected by this by training techniques. “ Tennessee walking horses have a naturally high gait, giving riders less bounce. The high step serves as a natural shock absorber. Over the years, trainers have used special shoes and metal chains to encourage a higher step. Eventually, some figured out that the training could go faster if they abused horse’s hooves and ankles.”( Duane W. Gang, “2 Bills Aim to Rein in Tennesse Walking horse Abuse”). This shows how awful people can be if they want something and how they never think of the awful consequences it can have on the animal and what it might do to them or impact them. The solution is to get the animal legal justice by going to court with the case or at least report it to a police station or animal shelter. This awful thing has happened to many animals and many of them have never had anyone care about what has happened to them enough to save them from this abuse. Help save one of the 1,432 animals abuse a year and bring them to
Therefore, animal abuse is a growing trend in today’s society. This trend is bad for today’s society for reasons including death row for the animals, an increase in cost for animal shelters, and a decrease in space for the animals to be safe. Society can stop animal abuse by reporting anything they might see. Together, our society can put a stop to animal abuse, and protect our domesticated pets.
The number of animals that are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused adds up to over 100 million each year (11 Facts). Those animals’ lives are just as important as a human life and the lack of respect for these intelligent creatures is astonishing. The
Animal abuse is described generally as any act or omission that causes unnecessary or unreasonable harm to an animal. Animal abuse are vary and can lead to different forms. These may include, tormenting or beating an animal, executing an animal in a harsh way, binding or transporting an animal in a way that is improper for its welfare, neglecting to give fitting living conditions, neglecting to give proper or satisfactory sustenance or water for an animal and neglecting to give suitable treatment to infection or injury (Animal Cruelty, n.d.). In general, for an act to be considered as animal cruelty, it must be a non-accidental, socially unacceptable, enacted on a vertebrate animal, causing pain, suffering and distress or death. (Battle, 2013).
Animals are used today for many sources of protection, food, clothing, transportation, sports, entertainment, and labor, but millions of these animals die each year from abuse. “Most of the reasons that people give for denying animals rights are: animals do not have souls, god gave humans dominion over the animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, animals do not reason, think, or feel pain like humans do, animals are a natural resource to used as humans see fit, and animals kill each other” (Evans). It all started in the nineteenth century, when people began abusing animals by beating them, feeding them poorly, providing them with no shelter or poor shelter, left to die if they were sick or old, or by cruel sports. Most of the organized efforts to improve human treatment of animals all started in England. Around the 1800s, there was signs of rising concern for animal welfare in the United States.
Should animals have to go through pain and suffering? Should they have to go without food and/or water? The answer is no. Animal abuse happens everyday and it happens because people are barbarous or because they don’t know how to take the best care of an animal that they have. Whatever the reason it’s still not right and will never be okay. This paper will cover a brief history of animal abuse, the statistics, the signs of animal abuse, and what can be done to stop animal abuse. Animal abuse needs to end for the animals that can’t speak for themselves.
This sentence is, however, not executed in practice. With some perpetrators not sentenced at all, despite there being evidence that they committed the crime. In some extreme cases, such abusers are allowed to continue keeping pets despite the suffering they cause on animals. I have also encountered other cases whereby abusers walk away scot free with the crime without even a case to answer. This needs to change since the life of an animal’s life also matters.
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Executive Summary Every 60 seconds, an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
The abuse that animals endure at human hands is heartbreaking, sickening, and infuriating. Animals are just as delicate as humans, so why not abuse us too? Animal lives should be just important as ours. No animals should be killed or abused for testing, entertaining, clothing, or hoarding. Every year, millions of animals are being killed and torture for testing.
For animal welfare and the causes of animal abuse new research has been created. Since animal abuse is fairly a new subject, new research is constantly brought up. In the Bahamas a study was done in the College of Bahamas, and it states that, “…dogs were equally likely to be considered members of the household in homes without domestic violence,” (Fielding 197). Homes with violence show that humans substitute human victims for animal victims. Animal rights activists are trying to break down symbolic boundaries betw...
Animal abuse for pets can range from neglecting to take care of the animal to the actual deliberate abuse of the animal such as beating, shooting, stabbing, or lighting the animal on fire.
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
I will discuss each one in more detail. Many people who abuse animals do not realize that they are actually hurting animals, this is known as unintentional. When some people try to discipline their pets, they use tactics that they think are acceptable, when in reality, this is probably not the best way. People also abuse animals due to lack of attention, such as forgetting to feed and water the animals for a number of days. A family may take the animals with them when they leave the house, and forget to leave a window down with the animal inside.
One of the first steps in saving animals and creating effective laws is understanding what animal cruelty really is. There are two types of cruelty: Passive cruelty and Active cruelty. Passive cruelty is when the abuse happens as a result of neglect. It might s...
Whether the reason be that the animal became aggressive, the family couldn’t take care of it, or any other causes. Dysfunctions start to appear within the animal world. The owners begin to neglect their pets to the point where animals get horrible diseases and health problems including ticks, mange, broken bones, unintended pregnancies, heart warms, blindness, starvation, and more. These are all cases where a pet owner neglected or refused to follow the necessary steps to ensure a pet's health and happiness. Within the article Crackdown on animal abuse it states, “Psychologists, experts who study human behavior, say animal cruelty often stems from a desire by abusers to exercise power over helpless creatures” (pg. 1). A pets care and contentment starts to decline when an owner abandons the necessary steps mentioned in the previous paragraphs. Not only do some owners neglect their pets but abuse and cruelty begin to become a factor in some cases which can emotionally and physically cause and animal to
