Persuasive Essay: Obtaining A Driver's License

Congratulations on turning fifteen and a half years old! I bet you are excited as I was back when I was fifteen and a half. With earning my Driver’s License, I feel like a more independent (and less dependent) person than if I did not. Knowing this, I knew I had to endure a long tedious process to actually get my license. Obtaining my Driver’s License has provided me with three key components: the freedom, the responsibility, and the dedication. The freedom has provided me to go to places faster. For example, I like to go to the mall in New Philadelphia. I know for a fact that it would take over an hour close to two hours to walk to the mall. At least, I think so because it sets up good things used in your future. Some examples of responsibility are cleaning up after ourselves, taking out the trash, making your bed, etc. This is especially true when driving! There are so many responsibilities a person has when driving a car and when not driving. It is your responsibility to maintain your car in working condition. There are endless ways of maintaining your car in order. Some of these include, but not limited to: oil changes, putting gas in, rotating your tires, checking your tire pressure, check fluid levels,etc. Besides maintaining your car, there is still a list of things you must do. Some of the these things include renewing your license, renewing your insurance, having up to date registration stickers, making sure all your passengers are buckled up, etc. Finally, never is worse than you doing all the right things and then someone in the car whether it be a friend or brother does something illegal. There was always times where I just wanted to throw in the towel and call it quits. However, I just knew that my persistence would eventually kick in! Also, I had to accept the fact I would not do so well at first. When I first drove a car, my nerves throughout my body were completely shocked through the roof. It was because I did not know how to do it since I had no previous driving experience. For some people, they like to drive four-wheelers or dirt bikes before driving a car, so they have some experience, but I am not that type of person at all and never will be. So, me and my dad went down to Buckeye Career Center one afternoon for me to practice driving for the very first time in my life. At first, he would go through the course to show me where I would go. The course included turning both left and right,parking into a space, reversing, and many more things. My dad would always say the same things to me: “Turn the wheel, Coast, Brake Earlier.” These are just some of things he stressed to me. Turning the wheel was a problem I had early on because I would always do the wrong technique. I would always turn for part of the way but not all the way. The next thing he would say to me would be is just coast. To be honest, I did not know that a car could do such a thing. Coasting to me seems like taking a little break from driving.
