Big game hunting is a hobby, pastime, and even a sport in which people go to countries and hunt animals such as Giraffes or lions. The hunting itself usually occurs in countries like South Africa or Ziamba. Typically the rich take part in big game hunting because it’s expensive. When the hunting is done, hunters usually use the animals he or she killed as a trophy or for food. Big game hunting has a plethora of superb effects. It positively affects not only the animals but also the country's economy, it allows for people to visit other countries, gives certain people a source of food, can limit certain species from overpopulating and can help preserve endangered species and even increase their numbers. This and many other fees for animals whose species are endangered are extraordinarily high. In addition to the fee being $50,000 there are only 5 sold per year which can drastically increase the price of bidding and thus help businesses and economies. A Black Rhinoceros hunting permit “was sold for $350,000” (Can Trophy Hunting Actually Help Conservation) as opposed to the previous bidder who put up an enormous amount of $223,000. The price from bidding can clearly make the price of the permit skyrocket. This limits the amount of people actually able to hunt to an insignificant amount. With this limiting factor it allows for the animals species that is being hunted to be able to reproduce and grow without little no interference. An example is paying for park rangers that can keep animals healthy and protected. A study done on 2005 by a man named Nigel Leader-Williams found that it was beneficial to white rhinoceroses in South Africa. Because they legalized the of hunting rhinoceroses they found that their numbers increased from under one-hundred to an astonishing number of over 11,000. The same goes with the elephants in Zambia. Hunting can manage animal population and “keep certain species of animal under control”(6 Major Pros and Cons of Hunting). This is comparable to the problem we faced with the deer population and how hunting returned their number to a controllable amount the same can happen with South Africa’s or Zambia’s undesirable warthog population. Hunting can help drastically decrease their numbers and provide food for those who need it. People often argue about the vulnerability and danger that comes with big game hunting. Those opposed to big game hunting say that it’s dangerous and has a high “possibility of an accident or danger”(6 Major Pros and Cons of Hunting).
