Personality : Personality makes athletes a good player as it is what underlies their willingness to learn , their co-operation with other players and their constituency throughout training and the game. In basketball personality is essential as players with a personality will work as a team instead of on their own for example instead of keeping the ball to themselves , they will pass to their surrounding players. Personality will also prevent players from causing trouble with the opposition and play the game fair and square.
Heredity : Heredity is important in basketball as it determines how fast they will be able to run to the goal line as well as how high they can jump to score a goal. These are both important in basket ball as it provides the athlete with a higher chance of winning a game due to their characteristics that cant be changed. Players with slow twitch muscle fibres which are also heredity are encouraged to play basketball as it it believed their performance is effective during events that require endurance.
Somatotype : The somatotype of someone is usually refereed to their body type or the shape of it. For example gender has an impact on the way a basketball player will perform due to whether they are female or male. Due to males having a higher level of testosterone then women , their bodies are provided with more energy as well as more strength.
Self confidence : Self confidence is when one believes in themselves and also that they can achieve goals they have set out. Self confidence is essential in basket ball as players / athletes will be able to believe that they can achieve the skills needed for basketball in order to reach their goals for example shooting a goal in the hoop and scoring or winning an aw...

...er training has been completed and while the muscles are still warm. It helps to improve the flexibility of basket ball players as well as assists in the variety of movements that can be completed after static stretching. Examples of static stretching used by individuals playing basketball is stretching the quadriceps , triceps and hamstring and many more. An article written in the European Journal of Applied Physiology;Nov2011, Vol. 111 Issue 11, p2633 states the following “ Sports that necessitate a high degree of static flexibility should use short duration static stretches with lower intensity stretches in a trained population to minimize the possibilities of impairments.” This article is therefore evident of the importance of static stretching for basketball players due to its prevention of problems that may occur of the muscles during a game of basketball.
As stated in “Investigating Coed Sports Ability to Encourage Inclusion and Equality”, “Females experienced increased self-confidence and pride.” Moreover, when athletes compete with the opposite sex, their skills are bettered. When players realize their skill set has increased as a result, their self-confidence is boosted. Self-confidence is one of the most important things needed to play sports. An athlete can be very talented but if he does not
Attention Getter: “I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a Baller, I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her.” That timeless phrase coined by Ski-Lo in the early nineties, resonates with so many of us because all of those goals are things that people relate to being successful. And while I can’t help you with the first and the last respectively, becoming a “Basket-baller” is quite feasible, with a little hard work.
I am a young ambitious student who strives to excel in everything I do. I want to study Sport Psychology as I know I possess the right skills to further and develop myself in the career of sports. I have the ability to understand others in sports as I also play sports myself. I have been in high pressured sporting situations which I have used my psychological skills to help increase my performance. What interests me in Sport Psychology is that I can make a big difference to not just my life but the lives of people in sport such as rehabilitating athletes or boosting athlete performance. I am fascinated by how different athletes perform in the same environment and getting practical with the mind, body and brain. Improving performance, consistency and stability in an athlete’s
Basketball is a sport that has changed in various ways since its invention in 1891. It has evolved and expanded across the United States and across the world. Basketball is a "transition game. Players continuously switch between defensive and offensive plays throughout the game. The plays include strenuous physical, such as running/sprinting, cutting, feints, jumps, and landings. Rapid turns and proximity during one-on-one situations increase the possibility of physical contact. Thus, frequent intermittent running and sprinting characterize the action of the game. Motion analysis has shown that depending on individual playing-time; basketball players cover a distance between 4.6 and 5.8 km per game, with mean heart rates between 80 and 90% of individual maximum heart rates (European Network for Sports injuries prevention, 2008). Consequently, players need to rid of highly advanced basic...
Personal interview. 27 Oct. 2013. Coffey, Delice. “Understanding Confidence.” Sports Psychology For Basketball.
“The odds of a high school basketball player making it to the “next level” to play college basketball (DI, II, or III) is slim. In fact, only 3.4% of high school players go on to play college basketball. Taking it even further, only 1.2% of college basketball players go on to get drafted in the NBA” (Winters, 2016). There are two types of players in the game. There are the kids who play basketball because they are athletic, and all they are seeking to gain is the recognition and awards. They want to be known. Those players are self-centered, they do not play for the team, and generally don’t play because they love the game. These are the types of players who don’t usually go on to play at the next level. On the other hand, there are the players that absolutely dedicate their life to the game of basketball just because they love the game. That is what coaches are looking for in a player, and that is the kind of player I am striving to be.
"To better monitor the training and diet programs of a basketball player, it must be first understood the components of the physique and body of them (Gerodimos, 2005)." From what we know is that centers have the highest proportional body mass compared to other positions whereas guards had lower body mass related to their height. The results from the research suggest that the "body composition characteristics in basketball may be specific to the position of the player on the court (Gerodimos, 2005)." Knowing this we can tailor the diet plan and workout routine for the player to increase their
Sports are often identified to have positive influences on many individuals. The sports industry is growing worldwide, especially the basketball industry, which is regarded in second place behind football. The global prevalence of basketball is unquestionable, especially among the young. Basketball is a dynamic team sport that involves a pattern of alternating, active, and skilled movement activities. There are compound demands that require a mixture of individual skills, team plays, strategies, and motivational aspects.
Decision making is becoming one of the most important factor in succeeding at high level sports performances, basketball is one of them. (Britton & Yerger, 2015) Klein, Calderwood & Clinton-Cirocco, in 1986 argued, “successful performance does not solely rely on proficient movement control, an effective decision on the required motor response is also required.” This research will focus on understanding the role of decision making in high level basketball tournaments, its’ effectiveness on achieving results and methods that improves the athlete’s abilities for decision makings.
Sports psychology is the study of how psychology influences sports, athletic performance, exercise and physical activity. Some sports psychologists work with professional athletes and coaches to improve performance and increase motivation. Other professionals use exercise and sports to enhance people’s lives and well-being. While finding ways to help athletes is certainly an important part of sports psychology, the application of exercise and physical activity for improving the lives of non-athletes is also a major focus.
Basketball a sport that is played throughout the whole world. When playing this sport all you need is a ball and basket. Though the basket does have to be a certain height kids play it in their classroom or outside. What I mean by this is that kids and even adults in the office treat a trash can as a basket and whatever their trash is as a ball. I got interested in this sport when I was in middle school in eighth grade moving on to high school. I was never interested in basketball until I played it with a group of kids who today are still my friends.
Firstly, it is vital to note that anxiety, motivation, and concentration tremendously influence people's self-confidence and their performance at the long-run (Damon & Raedeke, P 188). Higher self-confidence reduces anxiety. The vice versa is also true. This is based on the fact that optimally confident sports people experience fewer doubts on self. Their worries reduce and give room for concentration in their activities. Additionally, motivated athletes are in a better position to strive towards achieving their goal. Motivation enables sports people to combat negativity and low self-esteem as they focus more on their goals other than obstacles. Therefore, it is fundamental to note that coaches and sports people must collaborate in finding any mechanisms that could stimulate and uphold self-esteem since it is, directly and indirectly, impactful to their
Basketball dating back to December 21, 1891 has had practically everything to do with Physics. The trajectory of the ball, the gravity that brings it down after a shot, the wind force that alters the basketballs course to the basket, it all leads to Physics. Without Physics practically every sport known to man would be impossible to play, showing the importance of science.
Personality - An individual’s personality is resulted from their social interactions and learning experiences throughout life. Netball is a team sport, therefore to enhance the ability to effectively work as a team, it is essential that all players co-operate with each other using their communication skills. Players may also find themselves more motivated to do well when they are enthusiastic or interested in playing netball because of their positive attitude towards the sport and teammates. Netball is also a non-contact sport which means that it is important for players to show good sportsmanship towards their teammates, opposing team and umpires for a fair game. It is also the players level of determination that will persist them in playing to the best of their ability.
