Introduction A worldview is a set of convictions and practices that shape a man's way to deal with the most essential issues in life which discovers that individual's conduct, needs, and relationship to God and kindred people, evaluate the importance of occasions, and justify his/her activities and mindset (Palmer, 1998). In this paper this author will describe her personal worldview based on James W. Sire’s seven questions, and concepts of pluralism, scientism, and postmodernism. Each human beings have a natural body and a spiritual body. God made individuals in the divine image, empowering people to make them comprehend of God and of God's boundless and complex design. God made the human from the dust of the ground, and He breathed life into the body to have a living body. When a person dies the reveres is happening, the breath of life separated from the body and the body returns to the dust and the soul returns to the God (Ecclesiastes 12:7, New International Version). As a Christian this author believes in resurrection, and on Jesus’s second coming, our bodies and our spirits will be reunited in a perfect, immortal state. Individuals can know both their general surroundings and God himself since God has incorporated with them that ability (Sire, 2009). Because we were made in the image of God, and God knows everything, we will have the capacity and the intelligence to know things. The foundation of a Christian worldview is the belief in a personal God, creator and ruler of the universe. The Christian worldview views the world through God’s word, providing the framework for humanity to live by giving meaning and purpose to life. It defines who Jesus is, human nature, and how salvation is achieved. In essence it is the basis of which Christians behave, interact, interpret life and comprehend reality. A Christian worldview imparts confidence, answers to life’s problems, and hope for the future. In this paper I will discuss the essentials of a Christian worldview and an analysis of the influences, benefits, and difficulties sustaining the Christian faith.
Human identity can be summed up by looking at it from two perspectives. Who we are in our natural state and who we are in Christ. Mankind in his natural state is driven by his sin nature. Romans 1-8 perfectly lays out who and what we are in our natural state. It also lays out who and what we are in Christ. “For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin.” (Romans 3:9 NIV) In Romans 1:29-31, Paul gives a long list of wicked behaviors that are still prevalent in today’s society, which lets me know that we, in our natural state, are the same as we always have been. There are no exceptions to the rule, besides that of Christ. “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (3:23) Paul emphasizes in Romans 1-3 how people have tried to free themselves from their sin nature by depending on the Law to no avail. The Law could not bring about justification (Acts 13:39), produce righteousness (Galatians 2:21), produce life (Galatians 3:21), bring about perfection (Hebrews 7:19) or free the conscience from a knowledge of sin (Hebrews 10:1-4). (Johnson, 1896) The fact is that God’s standards are perfect and we alone can never live up to them by any religious act or moral behavior. The good news is that God knew all of this. He knew that by our strength alone, we could not overcome our own sin nature. He sent us a perfect sacrifice to permanently fulfill the Law. That sacrifice was his only Son, Jesus Christ. “God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.” (Romans 3:25) Through faith in Jesus Christ, the grace of God has been given to us. The worldview that I embrace in my everyday life is European worldview, although I am Mexican the European worldview over weights the worldview that people will assume I have. I embrace the European worldview because the aesthetics,epistemolgy,cosmology,ontology and axiology that deal with that worldview are all genuine beliefs of mine that constantly affect me in my everyday life. The African worldview is completely different, it is all for loving your peers and is more community based.
In contemplation to the question what is a worldview and response to the questions that Dr. Henderson proposes in the presentation, I realize that with each person there could be innumerable answers. However, through my personal introspection, I contend that while society, culture and educational formation does play a significant role in forming our worldview, the major constructs of our worldview comes from our parents, community and the media until we begin to form our own be they biblical or remain based on a secular point of view.
There are many aspects of the Christian worldview that determines one’s faith. It all begins with God and what he did and why he so great. Then how humanity was shape with its issues and main purpose. The way we see Jesus and what has he done to be apart of are faith and what as humans have found for a restoration. Ganga and Kutty stated (2013) spirituality refers to a path of life that enables people to seek reason of their existence and helps people explore challenges. Ganga and Kutty (2013) conducted a study on adults to see if spirituality had positive effects on their life, meaning did their life have purpose or value. Each participant partook in a study that asked questions about their life and purpose. The study consisted of a daily spiritual experience scale, it was a point scale that consist of 16 items to be rated on a 6-point scale. The results concluded that spirituality has positive effects on their life when seeking their purpose. Each participant felt that he/she had a purpose and that their life was valuable and meaningful (Ganga and Kutty, 2013). According to Ganga and Kutty (2013), spirituality is a way for people to discover the meaning of their life. Spirituality is a personal adventure to understand answers to the questions they seek to find about their spirituality and purpose in life.
