Vision plays an important part in a leader’s life, in fact in anyone’s life. Without something to aim for we will always hit the target of missed purpose. Outlining a vision is essential for leading others and yourself. Within this paper, I will give a summary of the “Developing a Personal Vision Statement” assessment by Hackman and Johnson (2013), convey what I have learned from this exercise, how my self-understanding has increased, and what this reveals about my strengths and weaknesses as a leader. Lastly, based upon this assessment, steps to become a more effective leader will also be considered.
The “Developing a Personal Vision Statement” assessment revealed the terminal values I see as most important are salvation, a sense of accomplishment,

The things I find most important are the very things people often tell me to “chill” about. I want efficient, life affecting, perspective altering goals reached. Without logic, responsibility, capability, and ambition I am not going to have the sense of accomplishment I desire.
I want productivity. Most things I care about as a person deal with implementing or carrying out a well organized plan. Thus grafted with my personal vision statement is a sense of motion and progression. Yet, underneath all of this is still a sense of tranquility as I seek logical, harmonious way of accomplishing my vision while still maintaining true friendships. This increased understanding of myself will be helpful as I evaluate my potential strengths and weaknesses and how to improve my effectiveness as a leader.
The values that are important to me are the things “go getters” are made out of. Action is a strength that can make one effective but it must be channeled in the right direction. Even still, I need to be careful to not shy away from some of the more personable values. Simply because I do not see a value as the most important one on the table does not mean it is of no significance to another. Thus improving upon my weakness to overlook the values that create abstract results would benefit me as a

To continue an inner harmony, I need to be honest with myself and others to know when I am pushing it too hard or when I need to pick up the slack. Though being responsible often brings social recognition, I need to give the recognition to followers who are making the vision possible. This goes hand in hand with recognizing the capabilities of my followers and giving them a sense of accomplishment, in the end that will give me a larger sense of accomplishment too. Instead of simply valuing helpfulness, I need to see how that can form true friendships rather than just a working relationship. Lastly, my ambition is directly linked to my terminal value of salvation and though I do not have to work for my salvation, I must allow my value of salvation to drive my
We all benefit from having a clear goal and a sense of purpose in our every action. From the small to the large, it is important to know that we are contributing to the big picture. We are building a mountain, one rock at a time, and sometimes it is easy to get lost in the hills. We need a strong leader who can point us in the right direction, show us where to put our shovel and show us why we are here today. We are only as great as those whose shoulders, and works we stand upon today. We need to be that leader that paves the path for those next to us and coming behind
My vision is to have a plan for where my life is heading, to be able to adapt to the inevitable changes that arise, and keep my values in tact that help me to live a meaningful and valued life.
Your values and expectations in life. How do you measure success? Happiness? My values all stem from God the Father and His son Jesus Christ. My family, God and my career are my successes and happiness. My expectations are to be the best I can be and to always keep trying. You can do anything you put your mind to and never give up.
Persuading others of your vision requires knowledge and a clear strategy (Business Dictionary). Leadership is a natural quality that comes up as responsibility in exchange of having followers with, in return, the followers creating a leader. Concluding that leadership in general cannot be taught, as per the Trait Theory, we argue that it is different characteristics in different situations that result in good leadership. The Trait Theory points out that there is a certain type of person making a good leader, with the decisive factor being: having or not having distinctive qualities of being a leader. Despite that, being an effective leader still can be trained. External and internal influences impact the effectiveness and must be considered in order to succeed. Which leads us to the Behavioural Theory, thinking of what a good leader actually does. Kurt Lewin developed three leadership types such as the autocratic leader who is a maker, someone who makes decisions without consultation with others. Contrasting, the democratic leader who consults with others (a team, for example) before making a decision. Laissez-faire leaders, as the name already indicates, occasionally lets other people make decisions, doesn’t
State how these values were formed, how they influence your character, and how you came to embrace these values. (2 marks)
Firstly, I will begin by identifying my core values. These values can be put into two separate groups. Firstly, there are instrumental values: courageousness, intellectualism, and helpfulness. When considering the myriad of ideals, many others were eliminated

...s being responsible for my world visions, I am responsible for my supporters as a leader. In order to lead successfully, one must have a strong group of supporters. The supporters will all believe in the goals of the leader. When leading, you are responsible for making sure the group is moving in the right direction to meet its goals. Your supporters will trust you to make proper decisions in the path forward. Knowing your power to radically change the world is a great responsibility, which at times can be almost frightening. In the end, though, it comes back to trust; trust of oneself and of others.
I decided gratitude would be my highest terminal value. If I can strive to be grateful for all that I have and all that I am, I believe this would lead to helping me achieve all other terminal values. Providing service for other living things is something that I feel is important for the survival of our external world, which is why it is ranked second. My third value is wisdom. In today’s world, there are so many problems that I will not be able to resolve or fix, that I have to have the wisdom to be able to know what I can and can not do, and know that this is okay. I also believe it is of great value to strive for wisdom when I interact with people. Rather than reacting with feelings and passion, responding with wisdom could achieve a lot more from others, and ultimately allow me to achieve my goals. I did not rank happiness any higher because although I believe it to be of vital importance to our lives, I believe that if you do not strive for other key values, then striving for happiness has the potential to become a selfish or destructive act.
Some of the values that guide me to make decisions are my relationship with God, caring for my family and myself, caring for others, achieving my education, obtaining my career, and my integrity. My relationship with God keeps me focused on what is important. Care for others and myself, I will always try my best to help those in need, like my family, peers, and anyone else. My educational goals will lead to my desired career to be a social worker. My integrity keeps me sincere and honest in everything I do.
Values in my opinion should determine your priorities, and they’re probably the measures, you use to tell if your life is turning out the way you want it to. Knowing your own values can help you make decisions about how to live your life. The values that I believe in play a very important role in my life. These important values have been greatly influenced by my family and life experiences. My core values include family, health, knowledge, happiness, friendship, loyalty, trust, hard work, honesty, and learning.
...objectives. I have finally come to know what my goals are and the way in which my career will be sculpted. It is more of self-evaluation and self organization than for others.
Passion for Family, Community, Business, Technology and Intellectual growth are what motivate me on the daily basis. These are vital parts that have contributed to framing me into the person I’ve become. They have also shaped my short-term and long-term goals in life. It’s critical for one to have a vision for their life and what they anticipate to accomplish. Without a vision or desire there is no hope for one to continue and to purse anything. My experiences with in my passions have helped me aligned my vision for my life. They have given me the valuable knowledge that have set me up for success to get to this point in life.
