As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
This scholarship will assist me in achieving my goals through supporting my trip expenses in Mexico. Essentially, it will allow me to receive an excellent education in an amazing country as well as apply this knowledge to help oppressed and traumatized children living in poverty. Being raised in a Christian household allowed me to appreciate the value of helping others in need, and I am honored to be selected to apply for this scholarship for my dedication in my studies. The LCC Academic Achievement Scholarship will help me achieve my goal of helping others as a Registered Nurse. Laredo as my hometown, I have seen a health need in the community, which is why I plan to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree at TAMIU and work at the local hospital. As I devote time and effort towards my education, I have gladly been able to maintain my 4.0 GPA and be admitted onto the LCC Dean’s List three times.
I should receive a DCU because I believe that it will allow me to be able to further my education and pursue my dreams that I have. This scholarship will help me pay for my college tuition and classes. The college I plan on attending will be in North Carolina so I will be paying in state tuition and I’m trying my best to lower the cost of that. I want to major in art or architecture and I plan on working for a major architecture business of even running my own business. I was one of those children who wanted to be a veterinarian when I was young, but I decided after taking an Early Childhood Education class that I wanted to be a teacher. I have then signed up for the teacher cadet program at my school. To reach my goals, I realize that I must pursue at least a four year college education beginning in the Fall 2016 semester. As a young lady graduating from The Dalles Whatonka High School I think it’s important to be involved in as many activity’s as possible. Throughout my high school years I have been involved in many school activities and comities such as student government. I have always had an interest in athletics and played sports. These leadership and athletic roles have tough me skills that will last me a lifetime.
With all of the downfalls that I have experienced in my academic and personal life, a college education will make it possible for me to continue my journey into becoming a prestigious corporate lawyer.
