I have been passionate about animals since I was little, I have dedicated my time to having them in my life. I have over 300 shadowing hours at a veterinary clinic, along with caring for my dogs, cats, and my bearded dragon. I also have been working since I was 16 in order to care for my animals, and help save for my college tuition while at the same time going to high school. Everyone has their struggles in high school, and it is okay to ask for help. I have had to several times, either from teachers, or fellow student tutors. It is from them that I progressed in my struggles and moved on. Even today, from what I have been through in high school, I help my younger siblings with their homework and teach them what I have been taught from high school and tutors, and I plan to carry these with me to college. …show more content…
I have thoughtfully decided to not let anything stop me from trying to get into vet school and have told myself that the odds might not be in my favor, but I will have to make them be. After graduating from veterinary school, I would love to begin practicing at a city or any zoo that I can get into with my doctorate in veterinary medicine. I have always been interested in exotic animal behavior, physiology, anatomy, and health care. But I have done my research, and I have asked other veterinary doctors, and I learned that it is not easy to get a job at a zoo. I was told that a lot of kids have the same idea going into vet school, and that it is not easy. But no matter what, I plan to open up my own exotic animal hospital and with this I hope to better the lives of animals. I hope to travel the nation and provide cheap, or hopefully free, spays and neuters to animals in shelters or to owners in need. I believe that it is necessary to prevent unwarranted and excessive births of animals who will not be placed in a good
For as long as I can remember, my childhood dream has always been wanting to become a veterinarian. While other kids were outside having fun at the playground, I was at the library reading books and learning about the different animals. However, as I matured, I realized that being a veterinarian isn’t just about caring for and assisting injured animals. Being a veterinarian means having the ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations, showing complete dedication and passion to this profession, and being able to effectively communicate to pet owners.
...would for yourself or a family member. Nutritional Therapy by means of providing additional nutritional supplementation to your pet's diet is a relatively inexpensive, practical and useful method of health support that a pet owner can easily administer at home.
I am doing my research paper on being a Veterinarian. I have a strong passion for animals. I have been volunteering at an animal shelter for almost 6 years. I enjoy working with animals and also training them. I would love to pursue my career in this because it is something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.
Some girls when they are little want to be a princess or have other fantastical dreams that will probably never happen; however, ever since I was little I have known I was different. I have a burning passion for animals and always wanted to be a veterinarian. Some people have told me I can not do it since the field is so competitive but I remained steadfast as I child, clinging to my ambitions and even now I am pursing them. It is a challenge I will surmount if I take steps, slowly but surely, towards my goal. I know I am taking steps and planning the steps I will take towards my goal and the steps I am planning to take in order to make myself stand out as an applicant when I apply to veterinary school are to gain hands on experience with animals in a variety of ways, gain experience by working directly with a veterinarian, and becoming involved in my community.
I am a biology and chemistry major at Harford Community College and am working to obtain an associate of science degree in biology and chemistry- calculus based physics from HCC. My plan is to transfer to the University of Maryland and study Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine with the goal of entering Veterinary School. I have been working towards veterinary school since I was fourteen years old. My passion for the subject began while I was working at Olney Farm, a horse farm in Fallston, MD. I began horseback riding at ten-years old and started volunteering at the farm within five months of my first lesson. I was homeschooled; therefore, I could get to the barn before all the other children got out of school. I learned how to retrieve the horses from their fields, groom them, and get them ready for the lessons for that day. Eventually, I performed these tasks for eight lessons a week. I enjoyed observing the various behaviors of the horses, administering special diets to specific horses, treating their surface wounds, and carrying out general tasks to maintain the horses’ health. This is when my desire for veterinary medicine began.
Often when asked what they want to be when they grow up, most children reply a doctor, his or her favorite superhero, or a firefighter. As a kid, I always responded with a veterinarian, another popular answer among kids. As I grew older my answer stayed the same as my interest in the physiology, morphology, and behavior of animals increased. Presently, I choose to become a veterinarian and also to minor in wildlife conservation. I plan on graduating from college with my DVM/PhD to further the research of animal species and discovering cures, behavioral patterns, and extinction prevention methods. After watching the show Cosmos, narrated by Neil DeGrasse Tyson, it has come to my attention that in the Cosmic Year humans have only occupied earth for a mere 14 seconds. In those 14 seconds of the cosmic year humans have caused the mass destruction of not only
High school was decent but college was the best. After graduating from high school, I plan on going to college. The college I plan on going to is South Dakota State University or the University of Davis in California. When I get in I plan on earning a degree in agriculture. I plan on becoming a Veterinarian. I would like to specialize in equine. Along with my vet degree, I would earn a business degree.
When I was little, I never considered becoming a teacher. Growing up, I loved animals, whether it was being around them, reading about them, or playing animal based games. Therefore, I wanted to be a veterinarian for many years. I would play vet with my stuffed animals, asked for vet themed books for my birthday, and would dress up in my vet “scrubs” from my play set. However, as I got older I began to realize two things. First, the sight of blood in large quantities made me feel sick to my stomach. Secondly, I absolutely hated seeing any animal hurting and would always look away. Due to these factors, I realized that I would not be a good veterinarian. It was around this time that I also decided that I did not want to follow in my Dad’s footsteps
There are many kinds of careers people can choose from, all with different salaries and different requirements to get there. Sometimes people are okay with jobs that are easier to get that do not require a lot of effort, but when you have the discipline required for a higher paying job you can live better off. I chose veterinarian as my career because it has a high paying salary, requires graduate schooling, the work days are full of challenges, and it lets you travel for the job.
I currently am an undergraduate freshman, at the Thompson School of Applied Science. I plan to graduate next spring with a Veterinary technology degree. I plan next spring to enroll into the COLSA department and work to get my Zoology degree. I hope one day to work at Disney World in Animal Kingdom, and then train service dogs as a hobby. Through highschool I got academic honors my sophomore and senior year. Through UNH I have a 2.8 GPA. I continued my love for writing and got involved with the writing here on campus. Through my experience from UNH I learned how to be a better pet owner and a better professional. One of my favorite classes was my large animal behavior class taught by one of the few male teachers in the Thompson school, Drew
Ever since the age of 9, I have saved a spot in my heart for the love of animals. Growing up i have always known that i wanted a career involving animal care. Throughout high school i changed my mind several times about my future career, at first being an animal trainer interested me and then i grew an interest in becoming a veterinarian. As several months went by and after volunteering at a veterinarian clinic, i enrolled in college and changed my mind once again. I did not want a career working in the medical field, all i wanted was to care for all animals and not heal them. I looked into being a zookeeper and i told myself, no more changing your mind this will be your career. As the 2017 spring semester was getting closer, i thought about
Most students either enjoy math and science or English and history. After eleven years of school, I came to the conclusion that I love math and science. My sophomore year of high school, I took biology and chemistry and I loved it. Ever since I was eight years old, I always wanted to become a veterinarian. While talking to my friends about what we want to do in the future in the past couple of years, I realized that I did want to work with animals, but did I really want to do surgery on the furry little creatures? I decided to look up different veterinary career options. I came across veterinary anatomic pathology and I always loved working in labs. That is how I found out exactly what I wanted to be. Over the summer I researched college majors. Considering I love biology and chemistry, I came to the conclusion that I want to major in biochemistry.
“But it’s mooing from both ends!” Although an unlikely observation for a 13-year-old from Brooklyn, nothing seemed more appropriate when staring down the rear end of a dystocic, hip-locked Holstein for the first time. The farm manager’s colorful language conveyed her concern: the complication was due to the calf’s large size, that typical of a male, which would have no place on the dairy farm and yet was putting at risk the farm’s prized Holstein. With the ropes secured to the front legs of the calf, the farm manager yelled for help. I immediately jumped in, pulling with each contraction to the distressed mooing of the dam and the profanity of the farmer. In a single motion the calf was released from its estrogenic incarceration. A great collective sigh of relief reverberated throughout the barn, quickly followed by a gasp: the unruly birth of a supposedly defunct calf yielded the largest heifer The Putney School farm had seen in years.
Animals have always had a major impact on my life. I've rescued and raised horses, owned dogs that have become family, and had other pets like birds, rabbits and fish. I have wanted to be a veterinarian since I was eight years old because of the impact and relationships I've had with every animal I've owned. I believe that all animals have a bigger purpose than just existing. They could be your emotional support system, your companion, and some animals are used for food and helping people make money to provide for their families. Whatever their purpose may be they are important for our lives and they deserve to be treated with respect and taken care of the same way as people are. I believe that the Animal Science program at Colorado State University, being such a pristine program, will help me achieve my goal of being a veterinarian in a way that other universities can not offer me.
As a child it is immediately installed in our minds that we are expected to become something, and to find a profession we want to do for the majority of our lives. We were, and still are constantly being asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" and "what is your major?" These are questions you are expected to know, or at least have a general idea about. I was always told how important it is to find a profession that I am good at, that I love, and that I could make a profit with. I have always had a natural attraction and love for animals. For as long as can remember when I was asked "Camille what do you want to be when you grow up?" my answer was always a veterinarian with no hesitation. As I have grown my response has not changed. I know the path to this profession and the education needed to pursue it is not easy, but necessary for my future. In today's society it is nearly impossible to pursue a career without some sort of education under your belt, such as a high school diploma, G.E.D, and a higher education such as college. The type of education needed may vary according to the career that is trying to be pursued. For a career such as a veterinary higher education is a must. In order to obtain my dream job and to do something I actually like for most of my life I will have to use college as a tool, to gather the information I need to be accepted to a veterinary college. College is a way to better myself and gain the basic knowledge I need to go on to the next step on becoming a veterinarian.
