Personal Statement: A Career As A Counselor

Since I was a little kid juggling what I wanted to be was a constant decision in my head. Through many courses and time spent researching I figured out I had the best skill set to be a counselor. On top of this, I would stay up countless nights looking up psychology theories and researches that were performed. The main competent that was holding me back was being accepted by people, since my major is looked down on. I believe I will be taken serious as a counselor because I have the traits and characteristics that a counselor should possess, a passion for the subject, and the sheer will to be great.

I have a passion for psychology everything we go over intrigues me and makes me want to understand more about counseling. I feel like some people get into careers that they do not like or have any sort of passion for and in turn they do not get taken seriously. Also, the energy people give out when they have a passion for a career is overwhelming. You can always tell if someone likes their job by the way they talk about it. Also, people know a day will just do a job/career because of the pay. One thing I have been learning is that with the right financial decisions and smart investments the career you love will pay you back in dividends. I also believe I have a genuine interest in others which will help me on my road to be a counselor. Whenever or whatever I am doing with people I always seem to put them first. I feel like this is very important, especially to be taken serious in any career. Needing the perseverance and determination to make it to the desired goal you have in mind. I myself feel like I have this and I will do anything it takes to become a reliable and professional counselor. I understand on the road to becoming a good counselor that there will be difficulties. Grasping the concept of sheer will to get me through some of my days will be an absolute must. I understand some of the days will be very stressful and I will need to get through the day. To add on to this concept, I will also have an outlet that is good. Some counselors are dependent upon the use of alcohol or pills to get them through a stressful client or time. I on the other hand have a lot of healthy alternatives that will help me unwind and get my mind off stressful times. I already have it in mind I love video games and whenever I am stressed out on a situation or feeling down about something. I just hop on Grand Theft Auto or Fifa and unload all my stress into the game. One crucial tip I learned from some people is do not let your work life tip into your personal life. This will make life more complicated also it will be extremely hard on you to concentrate and be taken seriously by your colleagues and
