Personal Statement
Hmmm………What shall I tell you about me? You, the person who will decide my fate, my fate as to whether I would go to CU-Boulder, go live in Colorado, go snowboarding in the mountains, meet lots of interesting people, and have the most wonderful experience…I better make myself sound worthy. First off, I want you to know that I'm an unparalleled individual, whose outlook on life is of total optimism. Through out my 18 years, I've become freinds with people from all walks of life. I've learned to empathize with just about every one of them, gaining the greatest understanding in a variety of remarkable characters. One of my favorite, a homeless lady who's called Polly, tells the most incredible stories of love and the many men she has encountered in her 54 years of life. She lives under a bridge and panhandles for a living, yet she appears so happy and dandy, and she can put a smile on my face any day. She's the kind of person who makes me appreciate all the little things people like myself normally take for granted. I come from a family in which the parents struggled starting fresh at 30 years old in a new world, America. They came here in refuge from a country whose leader had forsaken his people, leaving them in a four year long nightmare in which over two million people were done to death. That country is Cambodia. The parents came to America, after having survived such evil and cruelty, not knowing a word of English, yet they persevered with desire of better lives for their two daughters. One of them, the oldest, is I. My father made me start training in Martial Arts, Tae Kwon Do, when I was 13 years old. He wanted me to have self-discipline and self-confidence…well, I guess I should thank him because all that training worked. Tae Kwon Do is a way of life for me. The tenants in which I practice are integrity, self-control, perseverance, and indomitable spirit. They may sound cheesy, but if you think about it, hey, it's actually very ethical. My father gave me martial arts, and my 14-year-old sister introduced snowboarding to me when I was 16. I love snowboarding! I basically taught myself how to board, well… with the help of viewing my sister's skillfulness. I plan on indulging myself with Tae kwon Do and snowboarding for the rest of my life! I just can't stress enough on how much I love it! My parents and I have many expectations for m...

...of the National Honor Society (and I would also like to thank the reader for having the tenacity to make it this far). My involvement with People to People has taught me such traits as personal responsibility and integrity, through Jets TEAMS and my participation on the Granby Tennis Team I have learned about the importance of teamwork and group dynamics, and by being a web-master for a completely non-profit website, I have learned how to be self-sacrificing, and about how rewarding this can be. I would hope that all these instances have already been elaborated upon completely enough in the previous paragraphs that I do not need to do so again. If this is not the case then maybe I really do not have what it takes to become a member of the NHS. I believe that by now I have demonstrated that I posses the qualities of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. I also feel that if I am fortunate enough to earn inclusion in the NHS, that I would do nothing detract from the prestige and respectability that is associated with the National Honor Society. But ultimately that is a choice which is left up to you, the reader. Now that I have had my say, it is time for you to have yours…
I am writing to inform you of my possible contributions to the National Honor Society and my interest in becoming a member. I view myself as a strong minded individual with a strong incentive to learn. Acquiring the ability to learn fast and adapt quickly has enabled me to be a part of a wide range of organizations. My participation and loyalty to the NHS could result in a great strive forward. I could provide more ideas of services to benefit the school and our community. I would also devote a large portion of my free time to the organization and assist in any way possible. Whether that means coming in early in the morning or staying late after school, I would do any means necessary to show my commitment.
I would like to begin with saying that I am honored to be invited into the National Honors Society. I am continually setting high standards for myself and to join a group of like minded people would be a very satisfying reward. I consider this invitation for application an incredible opportunity for forward advancement in my scholarly journey. So, to dive right into why I would like to join this honored society, I will briefly expound on my character and traits for you.
It is with great honor to be considered among the students of my class to be a part of the National Honor Society. the National Honor Society (NHS) has been an organization that has displayed great interest to me, with new leadership skills and responsibilities to take upon. I believe that I hold the leadership skills, service, character, and academic excellence that is required to become a member of the National Honor Society.
Being a member of NHS would be an absolute honor, as it is something I’ve always looked forward to. I was absolutely ecstatic to find an organization believing in the bettering of society through means of academia, leadership, and character, as these are the things I find most important in my life. My education is my highest priority, and I take it very seriously. I have always valued my academic integrity, and to be
National Technical Honor society is a prestigious club. Having the opportunity to apply for this prestigious society had left one honored. Being in such a prestigious program will open many more doors, and give one more opportunity to succeed in the future. I feel that all the candidates for this prestigious program have the grades and are all capable of being part of this program, but I also feel that by describing my unique set of skills I can merit membership into National Technical Honor Society and be a beneficial member.
Being inducted into the National Honors Society is what I have been waiting for. Becoming a member is nothing more than a dream come true, and I appreciate it greatly. If I am to be chosen as a member I know that I will be a positive and dependable participant in society activities. Due to my abilities and past experiences, I can be considered a valuable candidate because I demonstrate the qualities of leadership, service, and character. I do feel that if I am chosen, I will do nothing detract from the prestige and respectability that is associated with the society.
National Honors Society is an extremely prestigious and well-known group that gave me the opportunity to assist the community while working harmoniously with my peers. To get into NHS, there are four pillars one must fulfill, including, scholar, service, leadership, and character. One may not realize it, but these qualities apply all throughout life. In order to be successful, one must achieve some form of each pillar. Being dedicated and committed to learning and improving but also using the knowledge one previously has is to be a scholar. Giving back to one’s community by making improvements or donations or simply just being courteous to one’s neighbor is to give one’s service. Taking the initiative to solve problems and guide others towards
There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. As I continue exploring pharmacy, the more I enjoy learning about it and feel like I could excel in this career.
When I think of NHS, leadership, character, community, and role modeling are all things that come to mind. Being a part of the National Honors Society will help me do just that. I have worked hard for outstanding grades, citizenship, and becoming a leader and role model for other classmates. That is why I believe I deserve a spot in the National Honor Society community.
My perseverance has prepared me for a career in medicine. The path towards becoming a physician can be long and challenging, necessitating the ability to endure. My ability to bounce back from setbacks and mistakes has solidified throughout my journey. One of the cornerstone experiences of my personal development occurred during high school. My determination led to me my graduating as valedictorian of my class, while balancing three varsity sports and several extracurricular activities. In addition, I worked on weekends to help support my family financially. This persistence resulted in scholarship awards that made higher education a possibility.
My best (and favorite) subject in school is Math. Ever since I was very little I have loved math, and worked very hard at it. When I do not fully understand topics I do extra problems to make sure that they become clear to me. I spend a lot of time working on math to make sure I understand the topics throughly. I have been in math clubs since 4th grade, and in 7th grade I represented my school at the MathCounts® competition where I won a two silver pins. I won the Virginia State Math Award in 7th grade, and this year I got an 800 in math on my SSAT. As a result of my hard work I am currently one of three students in my school to be in the highest math group, Precalculus.
My decision to become a doctor did not come in a moment of blinding revelation, but as
The Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test (FCAT) is the statewide test that measures the academic achievement of public school students towards meeting the Sunshine State Standards benchmarks. The quarterly Reading and Mathematics Benchmark Assessment exams gauge student achievement on individual strands based on these Sunshine State Standards, which school districts require schools to administer to students within the appropriate content area. Teachers and administrators pour over the information at the conclusion of the exam and the data mining gets underway. The data is analyzed and scrutinized and teachers present their interpretation of the data to the administration to determine what modifications need to take place within their classrooms. The teachers, principal and school district utilize the data obtained from the Benchmark Assessments to determine the level of student achievement within the classroom and create a strategy that will target those benchmarks in which student performance was low. The vital issue with the data driven classroom is the effectiveness of the teachers and administrators at interpreting the data from these high stakes tests and constructing a successful plan that guides instruction based on the needs of the classroom, which continuously change.
Throughout my life, my dad and I have had a very business-like relationship. As an entrepreneur and business owner, he insisted that my elementary vocabulary consisted of words including: income, credit, loans, and interest. Even little everyday acts such as a phone call with my dad would end with him telling me how he could defer interest or how he needed to establish a new line of credit. These small conversations have helped me become more knowledgeable of money management, as well as more enterprise savvy. These little acts also helped me to develop my interests in life: business and leadership.
