When I came to college for registration with my family, I was very enthusiastic to study in college and what I feel when I first saw the school was that I just adore the school’s appearance. I was supposed to be a boarder student and made me worried about it, I was afraid of that I can’t get used to live with 90 people in one building. The school got started and all of my fear about dormitory dispersed. I am so pleased to be in RC Boys’ Dormitory and I guess everybody shares my opinion. Students entering college for the first time become concerned with their college life. The students are on their own once they enter college. There are no parents or guardians telling them when to do homework, when to go to bed, or how to eat healthy. These students are now responsible for how they are going to succeed in school and meet their own needs. From the beginning, these students wonder what their experience is going to be like and are they going to handle the demands of college?

At St. Ambrose University, the housing is mainly two bedrooms sharing one bathroom, instead of a communal bathroom. Private universities are mainly about giving a safe and supportive community that each resident can feel comfortable enough in to thrive. On top of the great housing, there are resident hall activities like volunteering. There are also over fifty clubs and after class activities available at St. Ambrose. There are academic, cultural, recreational and even more types of clubs and class activities available. St. Ambrose does its best to provide a home, away from home.
Finding a roommate in college was a lot more difficult than expected. Knowing someone and creating a strong foundation of friendship is completely different than living with someone. I assume people know about room etiquette such as when you close the door behind you, I’d assume you think that would be an indication for privacy or a non-verbal gesture of privacy and boundaries but for my roommates I guess this miscommunication does not compute in his mind. I did not think this would come to an interpersonal conflict between myself and my roommate.
I nervously opened the doors to my future, hoping for the best for myself. Schedules are a difficult thing to balance. A person must find the time to complete a number of tasks in a day. A normal adult may have time to get everything done and still have time to spare. The normal college student on the other hand is constantly on the go. College students have busy schedules that include working, studying, and socializing.
One of the biggest “life changers” I have ever experienced is college. You get to experience a whole new atmosphere, meet tons of new people, and you get to live a new life. Going into college, most of the time, kids are nervous and scared for what their future. I was one of those students. Going into college I was quite nervous and I didn’t know what to expect. Often, I would hear how difficult college is and how much different it is than high school. I wasn’t too fond of being away from my home and my family as well, which is another reason I was skeptical about going off to college. From move in day to now, college has been such a pleasant surprise for me and I am loving it. My college writing course, General Studies Writing, or GSW, has also helped me learn quite a bit, but it could also be improved to help students learn even more than before. Growing up, my parents, they always told me keep my grades up, to never put important things aside. They said learn from them, they had my oldest sister at a young age and they were not able to graduate or go back to continue educating them self. They struggle for so long, from buying themselves clothes, to paying the mortgage. Always put school first, work on myself to have the life I want when I am older, my parents said. Saying that, I believe; all the money I am spending, sacrifices I am making, skills I am gaining, and being able to say I fulfilled my goal will be worth it in about seven years for me.
