Personal Narrative: My Trip To City Hall

My teammates, Alex Wu, Andrea Palate, Namara Haq, and I rode the bus, went to city hall, visited the Brookside biking path, Arbor Villa Tennis Court Park, the Plaza, McGonigle’s Market, and KC Community Gardens. The experiences I had visiting these places helped me connect the concepts to the material I learned in class. First, we walked over to Brookside where there was a place to rent bikes to ride on the trail. The Brookside area is an older part of Kansas City, but is well kept and modernized. We waited for the bus and hopped on and because it was our first time riding the KC bus, we ended up getting lost. What I noticed when I was riding the bus was that the people that ride the bus come from a poorer social class. The first bus took us out to 75th street near Waldo, so we had to get off and catch the Main Max to get to City Hall. What we noticed was that as you go farther out the areas are much nicer and have been gentrified for the younger population, and as we got closer to City Hall, the buildings get more dilapidated and run down. Inside of City Hall there are several departments including finance, law, and health. After we visited City Hall, we rode the bus back to the Plaza. The Plaza is an example of a very wealthy historic site displaying Gesellschaft. It was the first shopping center in the world following the idea of people travelling to it by automobile, and the architectural design is based off of Seville, Spain. The Plaza demonstrates the idea of Gesellschaft, in the fact that its sole purpose is to provide a public space for people to come and shop. People come from all over the country to spend money at fancy shops without much social interaction with others.
