The scariest thing that I have ever experienced was dislocating my knee during my high school basketball game. While attending Forestview High in 2013 the second game of the season, I acquired my knee injury against Highland Tech. I was very excited about the game because I worked very hard to take a senior spot and was finally getting the opportunity that I was waiting for. Everyday during practice, I gave my all, all the blood, sweat, and tears that I experienced I just knew it was my time. Tuesday, November 22 we get to Highland, warm up, and finally it's time for tip-off. The first quarter I get off to a rough start getting all the jitters out. I was born in a small town in Iowa. When I was 25 I got drafted in the first round pick for the golden state warriors. The event that really changed in my life was when I was on the warriors in my first game for them. I was involved because my whole life I have been playing basketball and basketball has always been my favorite sport. Everything turned out to be really good because I was so good I was the starting point guard for the warriors. After I played point guard for 15 years for the warriors then I retired and then became the warriors coach for 20 years and then retired from that and then I had so much money I bought a 2060 new mustang for 1 million dollars.
In this essay, I would be talking about basketball and how it affected my life. This very challenging topic for discusses because it is so hard for me. It was a though thing to deal with in my life; it was sad what happen to me. Basketball always remained an extensive fraction of my life.
I remember my junior year of basketball as if it were yesterday. First off, my coach, Mr. Neal pushed me to my limits in order for me to reach my full high school potential. This strenuous effort was to make me into the leader of the team. Mr. Neal was about 5’6, African American, and very easy to relate too. He had much respect around campus, and his presence allowed others to notice that he was willing to put in the effort to achieve his goals set in place. With it being his first year as the head coach of the basketball program, he had lots of pressures on him, especially with our last season being successful in winning the championship. Basketball is one of the many sports I play. It clears my mind from everything. It helps me focus. I don't know what else I would do to burn energy. It really helps me connect with my friends. Growing up I was known as the “tomboy” on the block. I was 5’7, fit, had good dribbling and rebounding skills, and was known as the dominator of the paint on the basketball court. I loved to be active in school and play sports. When school was over and summer had begun, I would always go play basketball with my older brother at the local park, which was Pepper Park. I always played with the boys and never had an issue, except for this one day some boy decided he was going to bully me just because I was the only girl on the court. I will never forget the day I was discriminated on the court because I was the only girl.
I grew up around the culture of athletics and competitiveness. In my house, all four of my older siblings were participating in a variety of different sports that took up the majority of the time. I would spend every weekend on the sidelines of a field or court watching them play countless hours. I believe that they are the ones who sparked my interest in the sport that I grew to love, basketball. Never once when I was 5 years old, when I first picked up a basketball, did I ever think that I would be sitting here with the number of the college scholarships that I have today and that I dreamed of getting. But it was definitely not an easy journey to get there.
I held onto my teammates and my friend’s hand tightly, before we started our first game of the SAIC season of 8/9 basketball. This game was special; some might say the most important of the season. This year I wanted to leave something that the younger underclassmen can look up to and follow; a legacy for myself. With the sound of the whistle ringing throughout the gym, I called in my fifth grade boys basketball team. My team composed of seven boys whom I’d coached since they were barely able to dribble a basketball in the first grade. We played for the Immaculate Conception School in Newburyport, a small catholic elementary school I attended from kindergarten to eighth grade. This community we had formed had grown into something special, the type of team that only came through the school every decade or so. My grandma is my role model because she has accomplished so much and been through so much in her life. She is a very beautiful person, but very stubborn in what she believes and wants. Many of us have role models in our lives and to most people role models are athletes and movie stars, but to me a role model is much more. To me a role model is a person who has positively influenced someone in life, and is not a person filled with selfishness and greed. They help shape someone’s personality, and characteristics. They are people who someone can look up to for advice in a hard situation, and know that they will give those words of wisdom. They will never judge our past actions, instead only look to help because they really care. A role model is someone who we should never feel awkward talking to about our problems. A perfect role model for me is my mother. She is a wonderful human being. She’s smart, wise, ambitious, patient and such a loving person. There are no words that can describe my gratitude towards her, but through this essay I will describe some of her characteristics that makes her my role model.
