Personal Narrative: My Identity

Most students have an identity, an interest, or talent that defines them in an essential way, what if I told you my family came from nothing, and made that into something. I was born and lived on base in fort campbell with my mom, dad and sister (ashley). When I was a couple months old, my mom and dad divorced, and my Mom decided to move here San Antonio Texas with the rest of my family, you’d think life was all well and good when my mom moved in with family, it wasn’t. We lived with my grandma, aunt her son (Adam) and uncle under one roof, in the south side of San Antonio. at the time my mom didn't have enough money to move out or live in an apartment, we lived in that small house till i was about 3 maybe 4, my mom, aunt and grandma decided to pitch in and move into a house in north east side of San Antonio. It wasn't until recently why i my mom and dad left each other, it was because my mom couldn't handle my dad being in the military, she didn't want to be moving from country to country. Before my dad left, he gave me a gift, it was my first skateboard. 14 years later, i'm still taking slams, learning new tricks, and having fun through it all. Ever since my dad gave me my first board, it just became apart of my life. Growing up, i saw skate shops open, move to new locations or just go out of business. My goal in life is to open a successful skate shop not for money, but to build a strong skate community here in San Antonio for the future of skateboarding. The way I see me being able to do so, is by learning more about finance, how to manage a business, and to be successful against big name companies. What I hope to achieve in life, is to continue skateboarding, but also give to my community, and the way I see myself giving back is by opening up a skate shop and helping the next generation of skaters achieve their goals, and help them try to become a professional
