After comparing South Texas College, El Centro College, and Bryan College of Health Science based on my criteria of being a community college, admission requirements, and skills necessary, “ high school graduation, GED, and individual approval,” South Texas College would be the best choice on helping me pursue a career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Working in an environment that helps parents have the privilege to see what they are expecting on their way is valuable. However, becoming a registered sonographer is not an easy task because you need to have patient and make acceptable predictions. Diagnostic medical sonography is a profession where sonographers direct high-frequency sound waves into a patient’s body through the use of specific equipment to diagnose or monitor a patient’s medical condition. As described by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this examination is referred to as an ultrasound, sonogram, or echocardiogram. The high-frequency sound waves emitted from the handheld device, called a transducer, bounce back creating an echo and therefore produce an image that can be viewed on the sonographers computer screen. This image provides the sonographer and physician with an internal image of the patient’s body that will be used in the diagnosis. The most familiar use of ultrasound is used in monitoring pregnancies and is provided by obstetric and gynecologic sonographers, who also provide imaging of the female reproductive system. Other types of sonography include; abdominal sonography, breast sonography, musculoskeletal sonography, neurosonography and cardiovascular sonography. Due to the vast nature of uses in sonography, most professionals study one field that they choose to specialize in. Based on the case, I came to conclude that this case is a reckless behavior issue. According to the case, we know that the sonographer knew that the policy is not to leave a patient who has cognitive issues alone while waiting for an escort. However, this sonographer decided to leave because his shift was over after he pages for the escorts. This is a reckless behavior because the sonographer knew that he could not leave a patient unattended or alone until other healthcare professional come and take the patient. He was aware that it was wrong to leave a cognitive patient alone. However, he chose to leave because his shift was over. Sonography is a very complex field of medicine and requires a lot of scientific knowledge on how each instrument is used to create an image. A instrument called a transducer is used for each procedure. The transducer sends out high frequency, inaudible sound waves then listens for the sounds of the echoes bouncing off the tissue or organs being examined. Special crystallized sound gel is placed on the skin for the transducer to slide upon to create the best electrical field for the waves to produce an image. These ultrasound procedures are commonly used to diagnose many conditions or diseases. Attending Florida Southwestern State College to become an x-ray tech is a huge accomplish for me. Because I have a learning disability unfortunately I have to take remedial courses like intermediate algebra, Brush up English, and a reading course the first semester. The good thing about studying Radiology is you can switch to any type of jobs in this field. For an example, you can switch to working with MRI’s or Cat Scans if you want to try another department in the Radiology field. This specific field is for you to work with x-rays. It’s important to know the bone structure .You can work with ultrasounds to, Cat Scans, to MRI’s (Magnetic resonance imaging).
The dream that I most desire in life is to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. I’ve always had an interest in the inner workings of the human body, but I also value life, and care for others, and my happiness is the happiness of others. Although this career has its bumps on the road just to see mothers face light up when they see the image of their unborn baby is such a breath taking experience. This all originated from going to one of my sisters’ ultrasound appointment that I ended up going to all my sisters’ ultrasound appointments. Ultrasound Technician Ultrasound technicians use sound wave technology to look inside a patient's body to see there organs, veins, babies and even the heart, these pictures then go back to a radiologist for them to let the patient know whats going on with them. In order to become an ultrasound technician you need to do these things, you need to have specific classes taken in high school and college such as biology, chemistry, anatomy and so on. You also need to have at least a bachelor's degree but you would be better off with a doctorates degree which you can get at one of these top health/medical schools, Kettering college, Columbia basin college, or Seattle university or even get your degree online. Although being academically smart is an important factor for this program, there are also other qualities that are just as important if not more. Some of those qualities that can make you an exceptional sonographer are being compassionate, caring, and being able to work well with others. The reason why I said this is because I believe “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care” (John C. Maxwell). Also it’s critical that you understand the concept of teamwork and that you can work well with others. In this field you need to work with doctors and other caregivers to deliver the best care for the patient. I can assure you that if you give me this opportunity to study in this great program, you will not be disappointed, but in fact be pleased, because I will do whatever it takes to complete this program successfully and become a great diagnostic medical sonographer. For instance, areas of specialization includes but not limited to; pregnancy, heart health, gynecology, and abdominal sonography. Alternatively, I found that Diagnostic Imaging degree is the best option and I feel more optimistic about it.
