INSTRUCTOR: TSgt JULIAN BLYDEN The most important concept I learned in this course would have to be that of Transformational Leadership; I have always had an issue with being wanting my subordinates to like me, and I would reward them with days off, or going home early. Sometimes I am a little too personal with my subordinates. For example, I consistently use their first names during conversations, instead of their rank and last name. I understand this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it can carry the perception of unprofessionalism, and as we’re all aware, perception is everything. It shows attentiveness during interactions with subordinates, peers, and supervisors. It also shows interest in how to best draw out the effectiveness of subordinates. Being a talented Adaptive Leader means I will more easily be able to switch from a contingent rewards-based style of leadership to a more inspirational style. I am not able to determine which style I am already using without first knowing and understanding myself. Being authentic to myself means I can also be true to those around me, maintain positivity, and have good morals and values. The key point is maintaining a positive mental state when determining my leadership style. I must have a positive outlook or else risk my subordinates becoming negative and, therefore, being less effective. Essentially, my positivity and effectiveness have a direct effect on theirs. But what happens if I am in a new situation with my subordinates? How am I expected to be positive when I am in an unknown environment or surrounded by unknown
