In the present day, knowledge has become a commodity as its acquirement is always associated with its application in a specific field. The nature of our expanding world seems to be causing us to forget why we began learning in the first place; it was not to train to become an office clerk who is the world champion in spreadsheets, instead, the curiosity of man has always pushed the threshold of knowledge further and further into the unknown, with this, bringing unexpected changes and implications. Yet when we explore this example further, we realize that this engineer knows perfectly how to perform the required navigational maneuvers and has trained his whole career in order to get the perfect gravity assist. So what is stopping humanity from colonizing other planets when we clearly have the knowledge of how to get there? Well, if we look at the first knowledge question we are faced with a dilemma, the knowledge of getting to another distant planet is there what is holding us back is the lack of reliable technology. Does this mean the engineer has failed humanity? No, because in terms of knowledge this individual has only contributed to the humanity knowledge bank, this knowledge of natural science in terms of orbital maneuvers and interstellar navigation has greatly added to the chance of a future generation to be able to travel to distant planets. As for the individual, he has the chance to personally advance and perfect his knowledge about space travel in case the required technology comes about. In school, we are all taught history and how it is important to study it, yet looking at it from a Theory of Knowledge perspective we are left questioning whether history is taught as a common knowledge goal or whether we are expected to apply it in some way. I can tell you that I have no intention in writing another Treaty of Versailles; therefore, the knowledge of world history can be seen as having a low value in terms of what we can actually do with it. On the contrary, studying history and applying it to personal history can have a dramatic effect on an individual’s perspective on life. My personal life history has heavily influenced the person I am today and the opinions I have across many different topics, but at the same time the personal value that I have adopted from the studying of world history has in a way shaped and sometimes shifted my views. In summary, on a personal level I believe that history has value when combined with the personal history of someone and helps influence their personality. The history area of knowledge is greatly interchangeable because it could influence a great population or a great population can influence it but without application of history in a global pattern its value is simply stored inside books and
