Music Connections Essay

For this essay I decided to use the genre of 80s-90s r&b. I chose this genre because I grew up around that type of music as a little kid. My mother would always play her favorite artists during car rides, cleaning days, or even on a casual morning. I think having some type of musical background, or even being introduced to music at a young age is a benefit of life. When I was younger, music was always a big part of my life. Whether I was at my grandmother’s house for the weekend, at home on a normal day, music was always playing. If it wasn’t my moms music, there was always another family member playing music. Since I play violin, viola, and piano, I’m never really bored. Over the years, most of the songs I learn to play are the older r&b songs, and the occasional classics. I like artists like Michael Jackson, Mary j. Blige, Monica, Brandy, New Edition and many others. I would say my favorite artist would be Mint condition. I like the group mint condition because of their sound. My favorite songs by them are ‘Pretty Brown Eyes’ and ‘Breakin My Heart’. They have a certain vibe, and the way they harmonize is so well put together it sounds natural. I also like their confidence, the way they dress and their album covers are very different.
