In my life I have been faced with many obstacles and I refuse to let anything get in the way of me furthering my education and attending a four year college or university. Ever since birth I have defied the odds. I had to grow up without having my biological mother or father in my life however, I never let that situation get me down. I have always put my best foot in front in order to tackle any situation that I was faced with in my lifetime. I was about six months old and my mother dropped me off at my grandmothers house and ever sense has not showed up. My father has never been in the picture either in and out of jail is the normal for him. By me sharing my story with you it tells you that I am not someone who rolls over easy when faced with a challenge. I am someone who likes a challenge and will take it head on. My personal background has shaped me into the young man that I have become this very day. My background story is something that I choose to share with you because I am a prime example of someone who has been faced with a challenge and when faced will put up a fight . When I was a young girl, my older brother always did very well in school and he and the rest of our family were always very proud of his work. As I grew older and noticed all of my brother’s achievements I decided that I wanted to not only achieve what he had, but to also achieve things that he had not. There’s an event in everyone's life that changes you, whether it be a simple hello or a death in the family. Tragically, mine begins with my mother marrying her second husband. The lessons I learned from this man shaped me into the person I am today. I came from a bad situation and he took my family in and and showed me that not every man is the same. Perseverance, the ability to forgive, and willingness to change your life for the better are just some of the things he taught me. If it weren’t for the little talks we had I wouldn’t be hopeful that I am, that I will turn my life around.
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
I will never give up. I will never allow failure to be an option. I will set goals and I will achieve them. We are obstacles are set in front of us daily. Daily obstacles can range from waking up in the morning when we are overworked to losing a limb or a love done. However, when the outcome is not in my favor I will utilize the situation to find my weaknesses and build a better me for the next battle.
It is August 2012. I’m rocking back and forth in my recliner, smoking a cigarette. I’m alone in my apartment, surrounded by fast-food trash. Trash on the table, trash on the floor. Trash everywhere. In between drags of my cigarette, I try to suppress a gargling cough that is creeping out of my lungs and into my throat. I do not want to cough. I do not want to be sick again. But I know I am. It is bronchitis and it is my third bout of it this year. I know that I need to quit smoking temporarily in order to get over the bronchitis. Like most smokers, I am always trying to quit. I think to myself, if I have to quit for a few days anyway, knowing that the first few days are the hardest part; maybe I should use this opportunity to quit for good.

Success can be defined in several ways but personally, I consider being successful as working hard in a field that creates passion, fulfils your desires, and ultimate becoming a better version of yourself through achieving personally goals. Often people deem success from your net worth, such as how much money you have in the bank, the quality of material items possessed, and your overall richness. My idea of success is being rich in knowledge, passion, love, having complex connection and fulling your ultimate desires while also helping those less fortunate than you. Success, is a term with relative meaning depending on what aspect of life it is associated with. I view success in terms of achievements, fulfillment, and accomplishments. I set goals, and I do what it takes to make them happen, by dedicating my time, intelligence, skills to achieve them. I make sure that at the end of the day I can be proud of my work, knowing that I invested myself a hundred percent. Goals are a very important aspect of life, they are like maps that guides you, because if you do not know where you are going, how would you know when you get there. All aspects of my life are intertwine, and accomplishing something in my personal life have repercussion on how I feel in my professional life, and vice versa. I do not measure success on the size of my bank account, the size of my house, or what kind of car I drive, but instead I assess how happy and filled my life is. Filled with family, friends, love, happiness, and that is what I use to determines how successful I feel.
We all have those days where we feel so hopeless or unable to do anything right. We have all felt that we couldn’t finish school or other life challenges. We question everything about life, that’s what happened with me. I had never had a normal life and now it takes a turn for the worse. I grew up under the circumstances that forced me to become more responsible and mature, which has enabled me to succeed later in life.
I could have been a super senior or a drop out altogether. I could have been a father struggling with finances. I could have been a drug addict and not be writing this three page essay that ruins weekends, and for that I am thankful that my dad didn’t let things slide that weren’t right. I am kind of happy he threatened me with military school when I was in middle school, I was a handful, I would get kicked out of class constantly but I stayed in school, years later I would be walking down my high school football stadium class of 2016 for my graduation, both my parents stressed it that it was the utmost importance to graduate, both my mother and father pushed me to get good enough grades to graduate. My dad would try to teach me math, I hated math so much it was my least favorite subject, I was more of a history type of guy. He would try his best to help me in school, but i just needed the motivation to get me started, I personally didn’t think i would graduate high school, he gave me the courage to do so, it was a requirement to him, I see some kids drop out or go to adult school to get a G.E.D but having a high school degree was better, I still got to enjoy my years as a teen, having fun with friends, hanging out, I just had to follow certain guidelines to not get me into trouble. In highschool I was never a bad kid though, it was in middle school I was a little shit who thought i runned things but no, my dad was the big boss. The most i probably got in trouble was when I came home really late around 12:00 AM with my girlfriend, but he wasn’t mad at the fact I was out with her very late, it was the fact that I didn’t let him know where I was, he started to loosen his grip about me going out slowly over my four years in highschool, I just needed to tell him I was getting home late, and there shouldn’t be a problem what so ever. Throughout my life, I’ve always had big dreams and goals set for my life just like everyone else. I would constantly daydream and picture myself fulfilling my dreams. But, when the time came to actually plan out how I was going to reach my goal, I couldn’t figure out which path would lead me to my desired future. Every option I would contemplate on doing and try would somehow fail and crumble before my very eyes. After several attempts, I began to question if I was even good enough or qualified enough to go to college. To me, it seemed like the people who had a chance to make it in life were the ones with resourceful parents or the students who were in I.B or in numerous A.P courses. People all around the world go through miscellaneous experiences in their lives. Every situation can affect a person in any type of way. The resulting effect does not always need be dissatisfactory; sometimes is a combination or both good and bad. Many aspects in my life have influenced my personality and how I live my life. Getting bullied in middle school has affected my life intensely, however managed to make me stand for myself, a stronger person, and not scared of what anyone says about me.
