Personal Engagement Statement: Growing up, I have always loved the card game called Spit. Spit is a card game where you and your opponent split the deck in half and see who can get rid of all their cards first. You and your opponent both place a card in between you both and have to line up the cards you’ve placed down in front of you in number order until all of your cards are gone. Once one of the players finishes all of their cards which they set up infant of them, the opponents race each other to slap the shortest pile. It’s all about how quick your hands are. The most important part of the game is not your skill, but your reflexes. Exploration According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary online, reflexes are instantaneous movements that move in response to a stimulus. A reflex that is observed in babies shown on babycenter.com is the grasp reflex. It is also known as a primitive reflex since we know how to do it naturally without being taught to do so. The website I used is made specifically for measuring reaction time. It is a game where you have 5 tries to stop a sheep from running away. The only thing you have to do is click the button as fast as you can when you see the sheep begin to run away. It measures how quickly you click the button each time and give you your average speed. On separate occasions, I had the boys individually play the game and record their average time. I would then ask them to do 10 burpees (a type of exercise where 1 burpee is a squat, jump, push-up, and another jump), play the game again, and then record their average

Communication is a vital component of everyday relationships in all of mankind. In plays, there are many usual staging and dialogue techniques that directors use to achieve the attention of the audience. However, in the play, “Post-its (Notes on a Marriage)”, the authors Paul Dooley and Winnie Holzman use both staging and conversation in order to convey the struggles of modern relationships. The play is unconventional in how it attempts to have the audience react in a unique way. The authors use staging and conversation to portray to the audience that there are complex problems with communication in modern relationships.

In 2011, Andrew Bolton’s stunning presentation of fashion as art, in ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’ opened my eyes to the work of a designer that would become the backbone to the majority of my undergraduate study. Aged 18, I traveled to New York where I visited the exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Four years later, when ‘Savage Beauty’ was showing once again - this time at the V&A, curated by Claire Wilcox - I wrote my dissertation on the complex relationship between art and fashion through a detailed analysis of the exhibition which gave me my biggest passion.
