In the movie Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Columbus did a really good job of taking the original theme good Vs evil from D’aulaires “The legend of Perseus.” My first piece of evidence is when a monster from the underworld kidnaps Percy’s mom and Percy wants to save her. In the original story Perseus is working for the king because he wants to buy a gift for him and his mom for the wedding because the king will take his mom. As in the movie instead of the king taking the mom the giant underworld monster kidnapped her. Next, in both the movie and the story Medusa appears sometime in the movie and story. Both Percy and Perseus have to fight medusa and slay her. Unlike the story Percy had a choice whether to take her head back or not. But,

The director of “The Hobbit” changed certain scenes from the book to revise the movie. The movie was based off of the book by J.R.R Tolkien. The book is about a hobbit named Bilbo that goes on a journey with dwarves and a wizard named Gandalf. When the director made the movie he changed some scenes throughout the movie to make the storyline more exciting than the book. Two examples where the author changed scenes from the book is when bilbo kicks gollum while escaping and when Bilbo finds Gollum’s ring.
The story of Medusa and Perseus is known as one of the top thriller tales in Greek Mythology. To begin, Medusa is one of three sisters, Sthenno and Euryale. However, she is the only mortal one. Originally, Medusa had golden, long, beautiful hair. She was Athena’s Priestess and swore to a celibate life. Later on, Medusa met Poseidon, fell in love with him and completely forgot about her vows to Athena. The Goddess Athena was so infuriated that she turned Medusa into a hideous looking monster. Her golden locks became venomous snakes and her face became so grotesque that any God or immortal to look into her eyes would become a statue of stone. The setting isn’t as different as the other story but it is the only setting it is Medusa's cave. The events are that Perseus sees Medusa's victims then Perseus wanted to kill or destroy Medusa. Overall, Riordan uses different mythological characters, to create a modern adaptation of the story of Perseus. Riordan does so in a way that a younger audience can understand and even relate to in this day and age. The main point Riordan is trying to get across, is this idea of heroism, and using children’s imaginations to make this happen. However, he doesn’t only use Percy to be portrayed as the hero, he also uses Grover, and also Annabeth, who both help Percy along his quest.

The movie Clash of the Titans is primarily a story of Perseus and his dangerous journey to save the princess Andromeda, while the Edith Hamilton’s Mythology is a story of Perseus, his relationship with his mother and journeys to her.
The Book Thief, now both a film and a book, is about a girl named Liesel and her struggle with the power of words. The film and book are very similar in content and were most likely made to be that way. It is evident that the producer tried their best to assure that the plot of the book is retained in the movie. The characters, Liesel, Hans , Rosa, Max and Rudy have their characteristics well reflected into the film. From Mama’s thunderous bellows to Rudy’s incessant pestering, the movie made that characters feel as if they had jumped out of the book and into the film.
My original thought when comparing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief the movie and Classical mythology was that there would be many more references to the myth of Perceus than any other myth throughout the movie in its entirety. That’s where I was wrong. After watching the movie again and researching the different hero myths my opinion has changed. My new thoughts are that the movie is not influenced by the myth of Perceus any more than other hero myths. The movie ties together many different heroes’ stories and mixes them together to make a wonderful story about a young boy. The movie was based on a book series written by Rick Riordan.
