I believe that people everywhere should always have access to adequate medical care. Where you live should not determine whether you live, and the PA profession was created to improve the availability of healthcare in rural and other underserved areas. As a PA, I would be eager to help people have not had access to the care they needed. I want to serve those that need medical attention but don’t have the means to obtain it—whether in rural Michigan, the inner-city of Atlanta, or the backwoods of Arkansas. Fascinated with biological science; fixated with medical mysteries, revolutionary medical discoveries, and the urge to make sense of the unknown is why I am pursuing this field of study. There are many reasons I want to study to become a pediatrician. Some of the biggest ones are the fact that I have always had an interest in medicine, and I am the type of person that adores babies and children. Also, watching out for the wellbeing of children is something I’ve always done. I also think that the job in itself would be very rewarding. There are several steps to be taken and to consider before fully committing to this field of work. Even as a young child, I have always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. Though my career aspirations started at being a pediatric physician, I have come to the conclusion that a job as a pediatric physician assistant fulfills my calling. Both of these jobs have similar duties, however as a physician assistant I can still see my own patients, create treatment plans/prescribe medication and be well compensated. However it only requires a master’s degree rather than attending medical school.

Ever since I was a little girl, I always said that I wanted to be a doctor, when I grow up. In high school as part of my required volunteer hours, I decided to dedicate my time at the Houston Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land. I choose to volunteer at a hospital rather than a pet shelter because the hospital is where I see myself in the future. My educational goal that I have set for myself is to establish and maintain high grades in each course resulting in a stellar GPA. This will be accomplished by setting a schedule for my assignments, and maintaining pace with the program for a thorough understanding of the material. As the semester comes to conclusion, I now have clear picture on the direction I want to head after completing my master’s in public health. However, the picture isn’t entirely clear. It seems that the short-term goals are unclouded unlike the long-term goals. Let me elaborate – I know what I am going to accomplish in 5-years, 10-years, and maybe 15-years. However, it’s still unclear how broad I would like to use my public health degrees. After completing the Foundation in Public Health course I was able to gain a deeper understanding for the field of public health, I determined the concentration for the master’s program, and was able to network. These three take-away themes will support my future career/professional goals.
