Pediatric Surgeon Personal Statement

Since the age of 12, I have been desperately in love with science. I constantly attempt to soak up as much knowledge of the world around me as possible. I am incredibly infatuated with the human body and yearn to become a surgeon when I get older. More specifically, I would like to be a Cardiothoracic Pediatric Surgeon. Helping and healing people speaks to me as a distinct calling and I hope to be able to fulfill such a calling in the future. In 6th grade, I had the incredible opportunity to tour the biotechnology company, ImmunoGen. It was my first time stepping foot into a real lab, where they had been putting together Antibody Drug Conjugates, or ADCs. It has turned me from an insecure girl to a confident young lady. Prior to my discovery of STEM, I was shy and insecure but after conquering experiments that seemed impossible to my past self, I have evolved into a happier and secure version of myself. From one of the most shy children, I have become Class President, Student of the Month, and a successful leader of my community with a four-year scholarship going towards high school. I strongly affirm that I have science to thank for where I am today. I still crave the ability to continue to grow through the sciences, and I know that participating in the AIM program will aide me in my journey of becoming a STEM professional. The vast ocean of knowledge that I am able to receive from the sciences gives me immense motivation; whether I receive it through mentors, teachers, or family. Within science, there is always room for improvement and more that can be discovered, which I find very inspirational. This inspiration pushes me in science and also other aspects of my life to be and become the best person that I have the ability to be.
