Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 on February 19 1942, which authorized the establishment of war relocation camps for the protection of the United States against reconnaissance and sabotage by Japanese decedents. It was believed that all Japanese decedents located near the Pacific Coast posed a threat to defense, however Japanese decedents in Hawaii were not required to relocate despite the large population within the state. In other areas however, Japanese decedents were initially asked to willingly leave their residences and move to war relocation camps. As time went on mandatory evacuations initiated by the government transpired throughout California, eventually removing all people of Japanese decent. Throughout the evacuation process, the government made reassurances to those leaving that they would assist them with their land, businesses, material possession, as well as providing them with adequate living conditions in the temporary assembly centers and the permanent relocation centers once they were transferred. Despite the government’s promises and reassurance the Japanese encountered inhumane treatment and substandard living conditions throughout the relocation process.

On Thursday, February 19, 1942, President Roosevelt issued the Executive Order 9066, which called for an evacuation of Japanese Americans on the west coast with the excuse of a “military necessity.” The government’s enforcement of Executive Order 9066 in reaction to the public resulted in the creation of internment camps.

In 1937 Japan declared war on China in an attempt to solve economic problems. They had a long an unsuccessful campaign until 1940 when they allied themselves with the axis powers. In response to these efforts the United States cut off all trade to japan which included all their essential resources like coal and oil. Their goal was to force japan to stop their expansion because of the lack of supplies, yet the opposite occurred making them more determined than ever. The two governments negotiated for months but neither side would budge, making war inevitable.

This topic was very interesting. .The Pearl Harbor played a major historical role in World War II by galvanizing US support against the Axis. Previously, the US had generally supported Britain but was dissuaded by public opinion from direct involvement. By attacking the United States at Pearl Harbor, Japan brought America into the war. President Roosevelt knew beforehand that something somewhere would happen, but Congress and the American people balked at entering the war. Japan's attempt was to destroy American naval power in the Pacific figuring it would take a couple of years to rebuild the fleet. This would allow them to conquer the Australian Archipelago and extend their empire. Luckily, the Enterprise was on maneuvers at sea and no American carrier was damaged in the attack. This set the stage for America entering the war and focusing its industrial might against the Axis Powers. the topic that entertained me was “How did Japan plan the attack on Pearl Harbor”This entertained me because i didn’t know how they had every thing planed out.Also when i was watching the videos in class it got me more entertained and i was like “WOW”.That is why i have choice this topic.
This paper will compare Gordon W. Prange's book "At Dawn We Slept - The Untold Story of Pearl Harbor" with the film "Tora! Tora! Tora!" directed by Richard Fleischer, Kinji Fukasaku, and Toshio Masuda. While the film provides little background to the attack, its focal point is on the Pearl Harbor assault and the inquiry of why it was not prevented, or at least foreseen in adequate time to decrease damage. Prange's book examines the assault on Pearl Harbor from both the Japanese and American viewpoints to gain a global view of the situation and the vast provision undertaken by Japanese intelligence. The film and book present the Japanese side, the American side, the events that lead up to the attack, and the aftermath.
History is a story told over time. It is a way of recreating the past so it can be studied in the present and re-interpreted for future generations. Since humans are the sole beneficiaries of history, it is important for us to know what the purpose of history is and how historians include their own perspective concerning historical events. The purpose and perspective of history is vital in order for individuals to realise how it would be almost impossible for us to live out our lives effectively if we had no knowledge of the past. Also, in order to gain a sound knowledge of the past, we have to understand the political, social and cultural aspects of the times we are studying.
