The current compensation arrangement for big-time college athletics is incompetent, inequitable and very likely unsustainable. NCAA makes over $871.6 million yearly, but the lowest level worker (student-athlete) only receives what the coaches decide on offering them through scholarship. Research The average athletic scholarship is about $10,400. Only four sports offer full rides to all athletes who receive scholarships: football, men's and women's basketball, and women's volleyball. If you exclude football and men's basketball, the average scholarship drops to around $8,700. The idea of paying college athletes has been up for debate for some time now. One player may offer more than another does. So his consumption should come out to be more. However, every player that’s a part of the NCAA should receive some type of pay. The pro and cons of paying a student-athletic will exist no matter what. Pros would be that the athletes will be able to support their self at school. Supporting their self could be from food, laundry, to social life around campus. Some cons would be if the student is spending the money on unnecessary things that could possibly harm them. Another con would be if the amount of money would make the student-athletic a target in the public eye. When looking at paying an 18-24-year-old student it's a lot to consider and think about. Student-athletic should be paid because they give up a lot of things the average college student get to endure over a 4 year window.
