Paul William Bryant lived his childhood with no very much. Paul was born on September 11, 1913 in Moro Bottom in south central Arkansas. He was one out of eleven other children that his parents had. His parents were Monroe and Ida Mae Bryant. His father Monroe was a farmer and his mother Ida Mae was a stay at home mother and tended to the house. A few years later in Paul’s life they moved to a few miles south of Forge, Arkansas. (“100 years Of Bear”) There were about 3,600 people in the town they moved to.(“Paul W Bryant”) When Bryant got older his father got real ill so his mother and bear had to take over the farm for his father. (“Bear Bryant”) When Paul was just thirteen years old he was watching a varsity football practice. At six foot one he was a big thirteen year old and the coach saw the big kid watching them practice. “The coach of the team went up to Bryant and asked him if he had ever played football before. Paul replied, “ This is the first time I had ever seen the game played before.” The coach told him “ you see that boy down there? You just go down there and try and kill him.” Paul started to play and lets just say he did what the coach told him to do. When the poor safety caught the ball Bryant smashed the kid. Before the upcoming Friday Bryant had made it to the starting lineup. In his senior year of high school he led his team to the state championship.(“the story of Bear”) One night Bryant and some friends went to a traveling circus. If it wasn’t for his varsity coach when he was 13 bear might not have even thought about playing football and coaching it. After his college years were very good. The Bear was named SEC coach of the year(“Bear Bryant Facts”)The Bear was a great football player and has so much toughness. He was known as one of the best coaches to ever live. He was a tough coach but a good one. He died right after he retired from the game he loved. He is remembered for wearing his hounds tooth hat. Bear set the standard very high for every other coach to come through Alabama and some have got close but not there yet. The bear will go down as one of the greatest coaches to every coach the game of football. He has earned that spot in the place hearts of a ton of Alabama fans.

Charley Johnson is a very talented NFL quarterback from NMSU that not many people know about. Having accomplished so much, I feel that people should. Bleacher Report’s Brendan Majev, ranked him the 91st greatest quarterback of all time. He was drafted 10th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. After playing with them and the Oilers, he ended his career with the Denver Broncos in 1975. “If you build it, he will come” (Kinsella 1). These words of an announcer jump start a struggle for Ray Kinsella to ease the tragic life of Shoeless Joe Jackson. Ray hears a voice of an announcer which leads him to build a baseball field that brings Shoeless Joe Jackson onto the field. However, this field puts his family on the verge of bankruptcy which is just one of the struggles Ray Kinsella is presented in his life. Shoeless Joe Jackson is no stranger to having no money, as he was only making a measly $1.25 as a kid struggling to support his family. He never attended school and was illiterate throughout his entire life. The struggle is completely the same with Ray Kinsella growing up, as he is forced into baseball, which ultimately makes him run away from home. Ray’s hate is Joes love. Joe loves baseball and makes it to the major leagues, but it doesn’t last. Joe’s career is cut short due to the fact he is accused of throwing the World Series, and banned from baseball forever. Rays’s father would have loved it if his son made it to the major leagues because he thought Ray had the potential and talent. However, his only dream was simple, he wanted to play a game of catch with his son, unfortunately, he passed away and he never got to see his son after he ran away. Shoeless Joe Jackson’s death wasn’t any better, as he died guilty of throwing the World Series which was the biggest sports tragedy to date. Tragedies are not uncommon phenomena, Ray Kinsella and Shoeless Joe Jackson have the unfortunate luck to go through a struggle fulfilled and uphill battle in what is suppose to be a wonderful thing, life.

During that time, his father is now firmly in command as the Director of Civil Engineering for Tangerine County, and his mother now the head of the Architectural Committee, a block captain for the Neighborhood Watch patrol, and mostly like to be the successor to Mr. Costello as president of the Homeowners’ Association. His brother, Erik, has now become a local hero as the placekicker for Lake Windsor High Seagulls.

Since the mine owners couldn’t shut down production legally, they welcomed the strike since they didn’t have to pay wages and could raise the prices and the demand for coal. Since neither side was going to give in, Roosevelt stepped in. He threatened to send troops to take over the mines. The two sides finally came to a settlement in October. After this event, Roosevelt accepted an invitation by Mississippi governor, Andrew H. Longino, to go on a hunting trip in Mississippi. The trip was in November, scheduled for ten days, and their guide was Holt Collier, a former slave. Though Roosevelt wanted to see a bear on the first day of the trip, he did not. Boone, a black coach, faces the challenge of taking on a new position as head coach of the T.C Williams High School football team. This is fraught with conflict and peril however due to the opposition of those that do not and will not accept the integration of black and white students into mixed race schools. Judith Minty's story, "Killing the Bear," is a rather chilling tale about a woman who shoots a bear to death. The story is not merely a simple account of the incident however. It is full of stories and facts about bears, which affect how the reader reacts to the story. In the beginning, the reader expects the bear to be portrayed as a cold-blooded monster who must be killed for the safety of the primary character however this expectation is foiled throughout the story and the reader sees the bear in a very different light. Due to the stories and facts given about bears throughout the story, the reader comes to pity the bear, but most will still acknowledge the necessity of killing him.
As a child Bryant was forced to work on a farm, he spent most of his time outdoors. Due to being outdoors a majority of his life, Bryant was able to obtain his transcendental view of nature. Also, later on in Bryant’s life he wasn’t able to provide for his family and fill the role as father. Typically the role of a father is to be the bread winner of the family while taking care of the wife and children. Bryant lacked the necessary means in supplying his household’s income. This led Bryan to take a lot of desperate measures in order to provide for his family. A bad investment in a merchant ship landed him in “debtor’s prison”. Debtor’s prison is a prison specifically for people who cannot pay on the debt that they have collected. Death played a major role in Bryant’s life as well. He had to cope with the loss of so many family members due to the outbreak of typhoid fever. His experiences of death allowed him to write with different viewpoints of death. Bryant struggled with the thoughts of an “after life” that were related to God.

There are many sports to coach, so choosing the right sport to coach is the first test for any coach. Naturally, one would want to coach a sport that you know the most about.
