Mike Lupica Mike Lupica is a very engaging author. He is such a good author that he has won the Jim Murray award, and two best selling book awards. Lupica writes in a style that includes overcoming adversity, showing friendship, and his writing is very relatable. These three styles make for a fun and exciting journey in each book that he writes. First, in the book Game Changers, the main character Ben faces adversity. Ben is a short little league baseball player who gets hit by a blazing-fast fastball. Since this has been first time ever being hit by a ball, he is now scared of every pitcher he faces. Ben has overcome adversity by “deciding to man-up and not be scared of the baseball”. The next time Ben overcomes adversity is when he is in a massive hitting slump (which means he’s not getting base hits in baseball). Ben shows “perseverance by not giving up like many kids would”. Ben eventually battles his way out of the slump. This is just another example of overcoming adversity. …show more content…
Lupica shows what real friendship is, as shown in the book Game Changers. In this book the author has friends helping Ben from the first page to the last one. Ben's friend Lily, who is a really good softball player, helps him get rid of his fear of the ball, when “she decides on her own to pitch to Ben so he can gain his confidence back”. Another way Lupica shows friendship is when Ben is going through his hitting slump. Ben’s “teammates rally behind him in the dugout and give him words of confidence”. Ben appreciates the help and support his teammates give him. This is how the author shows friendship in his
To begin with, according to Lucius Annaeus Seneca, “One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood”. Even this quote explains that true friendship is when an individual stands for another individual. In the novel Of Mice and Men, author John Steinbeck examine the idea of friendship between two migrant ranch worker even when there was difficulties. Through the character of Slim and George, author Steinbeck illustrates friendship and reveals that friendships stand up for each other even when is difficult time.
Friendship is an unbreakable bond between two people and contains loyalty and love. In the story Chains, Isabel finds herself in grand friendships that play throughout the story. She showed how devoted she was towards Lady Lockton, Curzon, and Ruth by being there for them during tough times. In the end, friendship is the light through the darkness, powerful and important.
Once, a wise soul has spoken, “Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful”. Adversity means having troubles and difficulties. It’s what you need to persevere through in order to do something you’ve wanted to do for a long time. If you want to pass that test, you’ve gotta conquer your fears and fight through all the troubles that arrive in front of you. Become your own hero. Adversity is a situation that took place in the novel “The Outsiders”, by S.E. Hinton.
42 is a sensitive yet heartwarming film and is one of the most inspiring baseball movies in this generation. The movie tackles subjects like passion, racism, and perseverance, and puts it in a inspirational drama. Yet the most important theme in this film is that one man’s courage can change the world. “I don't care if they like me. I didn't come here to make friends. I don't even care if they respect me. I know who I am. I've got enough respect for myself. I do not want them to beat me.” This idea illustrates the point that in order to have the courage to do something, someone must also be capable of sacrificing things in the process. Furthermore, in order to change the world, someone must be able to adapt to living without the things that
That shows the power of friendship. Friendship is like a spark of life that brings two people together from sometimes different situations to learn more about each other and to benefit one another. In Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, two close friends, Lennie and George, who are opposites in size and personality, come from different situations, but end up traveling together to find a job in the Salinas. Both have done so to pursue their hopes and dreams of happiness and to purchase a small ranch of their own.
Friendship is truly what separates us from the animals. Each true friend you find is truly a blessing and should be treated as such. Although we lived in different environments the boys from The Pact and I have learned and cherished this life lesson. Through tight friendship and perseverance one can achieve anything they set out to in life. Hopefully, my friends and I can take the examples set forth in The Pact and follow them all the way to success in our respective lives.
Mr. Green said, “The real hero’s journey from strength to weakness.” Surprisingly the uniquely unwanted situations created by these phases is the best part of the game called “life.” It is the journey that matters, because the harsh truth is, that the destination of human kind is death. A great example of one of these phases would be a college student graduating and stepping into the real world. The strength in is this particular situation is the college degree that is obtained by the student and just the feeling of being at a good point in life and just the great satisfaction , until of course the weaknesses slowly builds with time in this entirely new phase called reality. Many students come to realize after college that the amount of money they need to pay back in student loans is extremely enormous and that to for a person that doesn’t have a job. On top of that in the real world, you’re nobody with no identity and most the time people just don’t care for you. So you start to feel worthless even with a college degree and you just have no support system to guide you to your comfort zone. However there is good news also. Mr. Green says that due to the situation, it will help a person not be a jerk. Which is always good to have morality on your side. In this stage of life a person has to work hard make his/her identity and become self-motivated to find a great job. Which helps a person grow in their experience in their field. These stages only do well for people and makes them a stronger person. Every phase is like a test once you pass you’re ready to start again on the bottom of the next phase. Then the cycle just repeats and this will help you empathize or even be a mentor to a
No one wants to be defeated, but sometimes we do have defeats. For example, the United States lost some battles in the Civil War but in the end they won the war. Maya Angelou is known for expressing this idea of perseverance through one of her famous quotes. This quote stood out to me because, like everyone else, I have faced obstacles that have knocked me down once or twice. It is one’s own choice if they want to stand back up and succeed or if they want to allow themselves to be defeated by a difficult situation. In track, there have been many times when I had an off day, and I did not compete to my fullest ability in one event. However, I cannot afford to let that
A friendship is a special relationship between peoples , It occurs between friend that care about each other. In talking about friendship , the novella from John Steinbeck “Of Mice and Men”. Two friends George and Lennie ,they are trying to find a job together to complete their dream of having a farm. But Lennie is an adult size with a child's mind, he gets in trouble a lot and as his friend, George helping him solve the problem and taking care of Lennie. Later George and Lennie finds a new job , but George lies to the boss about the problem that Lennie has.
Marion Winik’s “What Are Friends For?” expresses the characteristics of friendships and their importance in her existence. Winik begins by stating her theory of how some people can’t contribute as much to a friendship with their characteristic traits, while others can fulfill the friendship. She illustrates the eight friendships she has experienced, categorized as Buddies, Relative Friends, Work Friends, Faraway Friends, Former Friends, Friends You Love to Hate, Hero Friends, and New Friends. In like manner, the friendships that I have experienced agree and contradict with Winik’s categorizations.
Friendships can change the outcome of a novel. Depending on who the main character sides with and who that character makes friends with can change if the character overcomes their obstacles or not. Friendship and love is when people caring and helpful to each other. Also its when both help each other without their own intentions. In Peak by Roland Smith, Peak views love and friendship as being helpful and caring, but when he is forced to go with his father, and finds out people who are his supposedly his friends are only helping him for their own special intention, he has to rely on loyalty and trust to find the people that actually care and love him.
Success without adversity is impossible. Everyone in life has their ups and downs and nothing in this world is perfect. At some point in life, hardships begin to occur and that’s when the real test begins. Some people rise up and try their absolute best to take a stand against the challenge. Then there are others that would crawl back into their shells, crying for mercy. There should be no excuse for giving up or not putting in the effort. People are only successful in winning the battle of adversity when they are mentally tough. The intense game of adversity can be referred to football.
A friendship can be considered to be one of the most complex and ever changing concepts that the human race tries to comprehend. In ';Lord of the Flies';: by William Golding, Piggy and Ralph, both as different in looks as they are in personality, are forced together by fate and to allie with one another for survival .Through the harsh experiences, that they battle through, an indestructible bond is formed. The friendship continuously develops from the reliance of Piggy upon Ralph at the beginning of the story, then to the alliance of both Piggy and Ralph as more tragedy struck, to their unbreakable bond which is formed, after the whole group falls apart.
As I grew up throughout my childhood I accepted the word “no” from my parents with blatant frustration. I grew up in a well off home and never had to worry about where I will spend the night or if I will be able to eat that night, I used to never be as thankful as I should have for those reasons. Thoughts constantly ran rampant through my head of, “Mommy and daddy have so much money why can’t I have this!” I never grasped the fact of if my parents could provide me with a certain luxury that I did not need but wanted, why they did not. As a child I saw all the kids around me with many luxuries I desired but could not have as my parents refused, although I was completely unaware of their own financial status as a kid I could only look at everyone
As friends, we all make sacrifices for each other. Some friends risk their lives for a friend. An example of this true friendship can be found in the movie, American Pie. Todd had a championship football game, but on the same day there was an All-State choir going on. Todd and his girlfriend were both into choir. He couldn’t be in two places at once, so he gave up his football game so that he could be with his girlfriend. Everyone on the football game looked up to him because he made a sacrifice to be with his girlfriend. When his girlfriend asked why. He responded, I did it for you. This shows friendship through a humble heart.
