Preparation Outline

Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience that by purchasing electronic books, instead of the common textbooks, they can save both money and a backache.

Thesis Statement: While textbooks are required for class, electronic books allow more flexibility and versatility for students.

INTRODUCTION
I. You just walked out of the campus bookstore with a single bag in your hand and a hole in your wallet.
a. The bag holds only three books and your wallet has hardly anything left from your check you just received today.

Each individual student has the right to decide if they need the entire book printed out, just a few pages, or simply their written notes.
2. Ebookmall.com shows that six of their formats are for digital use only, and the other four are printable.
c. When looking at open textbooks, the open license that is attached to them is what allows students to print and reproduce these textbooks in so many different formats and at any time for free.
i. Allen stated that open textbooks start out as digital textbooks, but turn into the open textbooks in order to allow the users to modify, add, or move around the material in it.

Transition: Printing out an electronic textbook is no big problem, but how easily can students access these textbooks?

III. Electronic textbooks are only feasible if students can obtain access to them without difficulty according to Allen.
a. Typically, open textbooks are web based, so students and other users are able to access them online.
i. Allen said that open textbooks can be downloaded by students to any computer in order to be used while offline as well.
b. With open textbooks being so accessible, students can use them at anytime, on any computer, and without the book ever expiring as indicated by
