Long Write: The Giver Ch. 2-3

In the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry one sees how there is basically no freedom in the community. The government regulates one's life long career at the age of twelve. Everything is straightforward and is the same for everyone. If there are any imperfections one is released. Overall, there is almost no freedom in this society and there are very strict rules. We see that all the rules are set beforehand and is already decided what will happen in one’s life. We see how Jonas’s mom explains to Jonas what happens at the Ceremony of Twelve: “‘ After the Ceremony of Twelve, you'll be with your assignment group, with those in training’”(18). This shows how at the age of 12 one’s job for life has already been decided.
