The origin of stereotypes is a topic that had not crossed my mind before. Thinking about it now a person tends to have similar views to what their parents or immediate family have, and I believe this is due to our views being heavily influenced by those around us while growing up. For example I was brought up in a hispanic household with our own set of beliefs and cultures. My parents are christians so naturally I am also a christian. Being influenced in our thoughts and believes by our parents is something that happens to all of us. Given that as a child we use all that we have seen, heard and experienced to form a set of core beliefs. It takes more mental mental effort to consider a persons individual characteristics than it does to label him or her as a memberof a particular group or catagory. I once gave a persuasive speech on the topic of is being attractive an advantage in life? In my speech I was trying to convince the audience of how being attractive can get you many advantages, like more job opportunities, have an easier time getting your way(receiving special treatment), easier time in the dating world etc. Now this is not saying that attractive people are better or posses more positive skills than the rest of us because there is nothing scientifical to prove that given that being physically attractive does not mean you are smarter or a better person. Sadly this is one of the many stereotypes and ideas we have of people. We see an attractive person and immediatly think that they have all their lives figured out with an amazing personality.
