When in a leadership role I don’t like to consider myself as a boss, but a mentor. I don’t want my employees to see me as a boss but as a guide for further learning and success. Today’s managers are not leaders, they are people in charge and nothing more. They don’t necessarily have the skills to lead, don’t get me wrong they may be a very good manager. However, they are only managing and not setting an example as a leader for the employees of an organization.
An organization has the greatest chance of being successful when all of the employees work toward achieving its goals. Since leadership involves the exercise of influence by one person over others, the quality of leadership exhibited by supervisors is a critical determinant of organizational success. Supervisors study leadership in order to influence the actions of employees toward the achievement of the goals of the organization.
Supervisors can learn about leadership through research. One of the reading assignments said leadership studies can be classified as trait, behavioral, contingency, and transformational. Earliest theories assumed that the primary source of leadership effectiveness lay in the personal traits of the leaders themselves. Yet, traits alone cannot explain leadership effectiveness. Later research focused on what the leader actually did when dealing with employees. These behavioral theories of leadership would explain the relationship between what the leaders did and how the employees reacted, bot...
There are many people that benefit from Lean Six Sigma which include mainly customers, suppliers, employees, and also stockholders. Lean Six Sigma is a way for businesses to improve, to reduce waste and to become more successful. In the future, more and more organizations will adopt or practice some of the Lean, Six Sigma, or both in order to stay competitive in today’s market. In some cases, blending both Lean and Six Sigma can be costly and difficult; however the end result can create an organization that focuses on quality, accuracy, and speed to meet the goal which is profitability.
1) Six Sigma should not be viewed as a quality program that is commissioned to reduce defects but as a methodology that helps companies better meet the needs of their business. KM shares this goal.
This semester along with participating in LTC over the summer I’ve learned leadership is more than being in charge. It’s about, “utilizing and developing skills to influence a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.” The goal is attained by mutual cooperation and cohesive behavior. A leader infuses a sense of positivity and directs others to reach the specified goal. An individual who stands not only for his cause but takes responsibility and motivates others also. There is a clear difference between being a boss and a leader. A leader is a motivator for others and inspires individuals to aim high and attain that aim. However a boss only supervises over his subordinates. Power naturally comes to a leader but that power is not a tool of leader. Rather if one tries to control the circumstances with power it turns out to be authoritarian or even suppressive in its expression.
The method of Six Sigma mainly focuses on the variation reduction in the process that happen in any business, which helps to reach a higher customer satisfaction level. There are two main approach of six sigma that can be incorporated for this cause. They are DMAIC (Define Measure Analyze Improve Control) and DMADV (Define Measure Analyze Design Verify) [3]. The author of this paper focus mainly on the DMADV approach to design a new dorm concept at the University of Miami, and this is intended to provide a new roadmap for conducting a design for six sigma project. I hope that participating in the JET program will produce more opportunities to share with the world the beauty of Japan. I wish to help the Japanese community to understand the African American culture as well. I would like them to experience first-hand phrase southern hospitality that people of color are so proud of. I believe the international community can benefit greatly from the partnership that the JET Program will form with me. As a writer and artist, I will share with the world what I learn from my time in the program. Working side by side with Japanese educators and learning from them and the Japanese education system is important in innovating classrooms back home. The program gives me the opportunity to contribute to whatever prefecture that I am sent to. Going out and meeting and conversing with the locals as an ambassador of the African American culture is key in my plans of full
These methods provide a logical solution to the various problems and help in enhancing the quality and efficiency of products and processes [7]. The critical power of Lean Six Sigma is its focus on finding the variables impacting the majority of variations in process {3]. Thus Lean Six Sigma methodology together helps in achieving project goals and the targets
The main component of an organization is people. A team of people work together to achieve the common goal of the organization. For an organization to operate successfully it must have a vision, policies, procedures and governance. Each of these four items are determined, implemented and overseen by the leaders of the organization. Leadership is an important part of each phase of an organization beginning with the start of the organization and continuing until the disbanding of the organization. Since leadership of an organization has a strong impact on every organization it is often researched in the study of organizational behavior (OB) (Kreitner & Kinick, 2014).
Leadership, management, and organizational culture are terms used in organizations referring to how their corporation are structured and facilitated. Being an effective manager and a good leader are key elements for a successful business. This essay is to give a basic understanding of leadership, management, and organizational culture. The aim of this assignment is to analyze the relevant concepts, theories and models about leadership and describe one person who could be identified as leader and analyze how effective this person’s leadership is and why it is effective. Defining what is leadership comes first, second will provide an overview about my organization and the importance of leadership. Moving forward will address the different type of leaders and the difference between management and leadership. We will address as well, the theories of effective leadership; and last but not least, identify our leader and conclude a summary of this assignment.
Leadership has been defined in different ways, a definitaion of leadership that would be most commonly accepted would be “the ability of an individual to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organization…”(House et al., 1999, p. 184 as cited in Yukl, 2013, p. 19). After a comprehensive review of different leadership literature, Stogdill (1974, p. 259, as cited in Yukl, 2013, p. 18) concluded that “There are almost as many definitions of leadership as there are persons who have attempted to define the concept." Leadership can be viewed from two different angles one is shared influence process and other as a specialized role. Researcher who view leadership as a specialized role consider attributes as a factor in selecting a designated leader. On the contrast, theorist who emphasises on influence process considers “Leadership” as a social process or a pattern of relationship.
Kairos time is a moment in which and new possibilities for change arrive, so that people can change the thought that only one group has the right way of living and believing. In time of Kairos if people decide to change the long term injustice, things will have momentum and attention to happen and end the chain and start a new chain reaction that is better and more inclusive. Liberation Theology understands, accepts, and appreciates Kairos time, that’s how it broke free from the chains of mainstream Christianity. Bartolome de Las Casas is a great example of this because when he realized that the encomienda system was the opposite of what God wanted he took that enlightenment moment and gave up the encomienda system, but he didn’t stop there he also wanted to make sure the no other so called Christians could keep treating the American Indians poorly anymore, so he preached his new beliefs to them and went to Spain to get regulations that would stop cruelty towards the American Indian workers. Liberation theology took the chance that appeared and created a new way of believing and living. Kairos time therefore shows another difference between mainstream Christianity and liberation theology. Mainstream Christianity doesn’t take the chance to change it wants to stay the same because in mainstream Christianity the followers believe that they are above and changing what they believe in risks them having to be equal
Leadership and management are two words that are commonly mistaken; the relation and the differences between them are often unclear. Leadership can be defined as the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or a set of goals." Managers are there to plan, organize, lead and monitor employees' activities. Leaders also have to be able to guide an organization through change. As we will see later, vision is a crucial component in the success of this task.
First and foremost, leaders help to motivate and develop employees in a workplace. There is a popular quote that states, “a manager
When most people think of an early childhood classroom they think of children roaming around and all around them toys, lots and lots of toys. (repetitive, and confusing to read) Many families may ask, “What is my child learning?” or “Don’t you do anything but play?” What these families don’t realize is that playing is a key factor in learning. In order to compromise with families that want more academia in early childhood classrooms, many teachers have begrudgingly introduced toys that include technology into their classrooms. In this essay, we will discuss the disadvantages and benefits of technology in the early childhood classroom.
