I am interested in a career as an optometrist because eyes are fascinating and I get to help other people obtain better eyesight, which is an added bonus. Also, all of the technologies that an optometrist uses to diagnose and check up on the eyes are interesting. What caused me to be interested in being an optometrist was my optometrist. During my first optometrist appointment, I was amazed at the eye care equipment that the optometrist used. He explained to me what they were and I loved learning about what each machine did. After that, a career in optometry seemed like an excellent option because while you’re using all of the innovative technology, you are also helping your patients, which is more important for me. During my education at college, I hope to broaden my surroundings through study abroad. When I come back from a country, I will educate others on the cultures and experiences there. With my education, I hope to join in a program like Doctors Without Borders or the Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity (VOSH). I will be able to improve the eyesight of people around the world and educate others from my experiences in that program. Someone who has inspired me in my education would be my mother. I choose to challenge myself by taking honors and AP classes. I can overcome obstacles that stand in my way and persevere through tough problems. I participate in school through my involvement in Student Council as an Executive Treasurer, Key Club as an active member, Varsity Tennis, Science Club, Band as Section Leader and National Honor Society. As well as in school, I help out in my community, whether it’s at my church, as a volunteer at the Bitterroot Public Library, or helping to preserve the Daly Mansion. If I am awarded this scholarship, I will use it towards college tuition and I will work hard to pursue my career as an
Current Employment Trends: The job outlook for ophthalmic technicians is extremely good, and is expected to increase over time. There are currently more positions available than there are applicants to fill them. There is a continuing demand for ophthalmic care due to the growing elderly population, and therefore a greater demand for ophthalmic technicians.
I chose the career I'm focusing on because going to the dentist or orthodontist and getting my teeth cleaned, whitened, or worked on has always been something I looked forward to. Having straight, white, "perfect" teeth is something that I've always wished to have. As I slowly lost teeth to the time they all grew back in my parents as well as I knew that I was going to need braces. So I personally know how it feels to have teeth so messed up that you are embarrassed to talk or smile because there is always a chance someone will say something about it, and that is why I chose to peruse a career in orthodontistry. My best sources were "occupational employment statistics" at bls.gov and "orthodontist careers" at learningpath.com. I was surprised
I have multiple dreams for my future. I hope to enter a superior college that is not too expensive or far away from my home, like Caltech, Stanford, or Berkley. I would like to graduate from college with a master’s degree in electrical engineering and a bachelor’s degree in biology.
An ophthalmologist has a very intriguing job. An ophthalmologist has the ability to correct vision and make someone happy for the rest of their life. An ophthalmologist has a very exciting career.
My journey towards the field of optometry began in an unsuspecting place; a tiny pharmacy situated inside of a local medical facility. Throughout high school, I spent my time outside of class behind a counter, shadowing and working for a pharmacist who instructed me on the many facets of the profession. I always knew I wanted a career in the field of health, and the more I experienced the more I was certain that becoming a pharmacist was the perfect profession for me.
I strongly believe I deserve the “Courage to Grow” Scholarship, because ever since I can remember, my education has always been the first priority in my life. Being a determined and conscientious student, I maintained a 3.8 G.P.A. out of a 4.0 scale throughout High School, earning myself a spot on the Honor Roll list every semester. Even though learning does not come easy for me, because of my ADD, I never give up on my dreams. I also participated in many extracurricular activities such as Key Club- a volunteering organization, Book Club, and the Cheerleading team. Being a member of these clubs not only taught me leadership and communication skills, but also how to be a well-rounded student.
Growing up I had always been asked the infamous question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?", and my answer had always been a shrug or a simple "I don 't know yet". If I was asked the same question now, I could confidently and very passionately say, "I want to be a doctor; a humanitarian who brings positive change in someone 's life.". It seems like a very general statement but I truly hope to one day become somebody who can use her expertise and profession to help others.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Vision Science from The University of the Incarnate Word is the first step in obtaining a Doctorate of optometry. What does an optometrist do? On a typical day an optometrist examines people’s eyes to diagnose eye diseases and vision problems, test patients’ visual acuity, perception, and ability to focus or coordinate eyes, prescribes prescriptions, contact lenses, and eyeglasses, and provides vision therapy or preoperative and postoperative care to patients in need of it. Many factors affect interest in the field such as future expectations, occupational job outlook, and schooling involved to complete Doctorate.
I have always admired the work of healthcare professionals and other emergency services through not only being witness to, but also being on the receiving end of the amazing and professional care
As a child I suffered from a corneal abrasion at my local elementary school's playground. I was cared for by an ophthalmologist, given a pirate patch and sent on my way. I will never forget how frightened I was and how the doctor was able to keep me calm and reassure me things would be alright. It is this feeling I have always wanted to provide for those in need and I feel that becoming an optometrist would more than help me accomplish
Once I reach to this point in my education, my goal would be to take all the knowledge I accumulated throughout my years of education and apply it towards an underserved
First off, I want to graduate from college and do it well. I want to be able to do things on the weekends and not worry about having to make things up or anything like that. I am hoping for a scholarship in football, in my opinion that would be a great start for me in college. Then after college maybe pursue that as a career. If that doesn't work out for me then I want to look into athletic training or physical therapy. If those things don't interest me or I don't get into it I am then looking into law. That will take much more time and patience, but it's gonna be the rest of my life.
I know that in the future I will be a person with a really good job and a happy life. This scholarship can help me accomplish my goal, and in the future it will help me get a better life. When I was in high school, I found a great amount of motivation and desire when I entered my math classes. I knew that my life had to involve math, and then I decided to do engineering. I decided to do Computer engineering after I noticed that I love to search about the component and its use.

Like many other students, I was stuck in the dilemma of figuring out and deciding on a future profession halfway through my college years. I’ve explored many career paths such as research, pharmacy, and dentistry to name a few. Even after shadowing and researching about these professions, nothing quite stood out to me. This brings me to the question: “Why Optometry?” Well, simply because I love what this profession has to offer. It’s one of the few professions where you can help people and make a huge impact in someone’s life. The idea of being able to correct someone’s vision who at first had no idea what they were seeing to 20/20 vision is truly amazing and humbling.
