“I come as one, but I stand as 10,000.” was once said by Oprah Winfrey (interview).Oprah Winfrey has gone through many struggles to get to where she is today. Oprah Winfrey is one of the many African Americans who has persevered through her abusive childhood. She has become one of the richest and most successful African Americans of her time. Through all her struggles she has had a very interesting life and many achievements. Oprah was born on January 26, 1954 on a little farm in Kosciusko, Mississippi (3“Oprah”). Oprah has three siblings Rod,Patricia, and Jeffrey(“Life”)(1“Oprah”). She learned about her step sibling Patricia and jeffrey later in life. Jeffrey died of AIDS in 1989 at age 29 (1“Oprah”). Oprah also got into politics by proposing a bill to congress for a database for convicted child abusers (3”Oprah”). Soon after President Clinton signed her bill that she proposed. Before The Oprah Winfrey Show ended she revealed a family secret which was that she has a long lost step sister named Patricia (3”Oprah”). Patricia went through a ton of foster homes before the age of 7. She wanted to meet her birth mom but alas she didn’t want to meet her (3“Oprah”). In 2013 Oprah was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama. Oprah has been in a relationship with Stedman Graham since mid-1980s and got engaged in 1992 (3”Oprah”). Oprah Winfrey has won about 33 awards and has been nominated about 55 times. In 1996 she was awarded the International Radio & Television Society Foundation which is a Gold Medal Award (2”Oprah”). Then in 1995 she was awarded with the George Foster Peabody Awards which is a Individual Achievement Award (2”Oprah”). The Oprah Winfrey show won 40 Daytime Emmy Awards (2”Oprah”). She has gotten seven Outstanding Host, nine Outstanding Talk Show, more than 20 Creative Arts Categories, and one for Oprah's work as supervising producer of the ABC Afterschool Special Shades of a Single Protein (2”Oprah”). In 2004 she got the Global Humanitarian Action Award (2”Oprah”). In 2005 she received the Freedom Award and The Founders Award (2”Oprah”). In 2013 Oprah received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama (2”Oprah”). Oprah has received many more than these awards but these are just a couple she has been awarded in her lifetime.
