She has her own talk show, and has written over 8 successful books. Her life is wonderful now, she has almost everything that any person has ever wanted, she is living the american dream. It was not always like that for her though. She was not born into wealth, and had to work her way to being one of the most influential women in America. So instead of going out to buy the newest brand name clothes Winfrey is doing so much more with her millions. Oprah saw how miserable the lives were for young girls in South Africa. On the daily they struggles with the lack of education, the constant sight and feelings of violence and torture, and the struggle of aids with no treatments. Oprah’s goal was to take all that money she had, and ambition and turn it into something that would forever give hope to young women in africa who do not have much. Throughout the years she has also given over $400 million towards educational programs and in total has given out more than 400 scholarship (O’Connor 2). Even though people do not agree with it, life is a lot of black and white, and there is not a ton of grey area. Oprah had two choices either use her financial stability and personal ambition to do things that were morally wrong, or she could use that money to help young people all over the world get the education they deserve. Her ambition is building our future. Oprah Winfrey said, “Turn your wounds into wisdom” which is exactly what she has done and what she is continuing to
The Oprah Winfrey show is still playing in syndication (reruns on different networks) and Oprah continues to be one of the most powerful, wealthiest women in not only America but the world. Even though Oprah is enjoying a “retirement” period in her life, she continues to contribute her time to underprivileged children and especially those in Africa. Knowing that if she can change the world of just one child has always been a passion for Oprah Winfrey because nobody was there for her when she was a young child. Oprah continues to be superior leader to all that is loved by everyone.
Although she was with her mother, she had very little mother and daughter time. She, unfortunately, was neglected and at the age of nine, she began to be sexually abused by many men. After this occurred, Winfrey began to act out. She faked a robbery, stole from her mother, and much more, causing her to go live in Nashville with her father and stepmother. This change saved her life. She lived under the household of her father who had very high expectations of her. She started to excel in high school and won a contest that granted a full scholarship to Tennessee State University after her graduation. She worked at...
Even though she's had a gruesome childhood, she's still exceedingly successful today, and she's one of the most famous women around the world. She was the first African-American female billionaire, but it wasn't always so effortless and easy for her. The first talk show that she was on, she was fired because she was too open about her life. She's been on multiple talk shows and eventually built herself up enough that she started her own. Oprah is a tremendous inspiration and role model for women around the world. Due to her working assiduously her whole life, she's very successful today and continues to be an
Winfrey’s early life was filled with arduous hurdles from the beginning, she was raised in a small podunk town in Mississippi that was anything but safe for a young girl, but on top of that she was raised by a single mother who was not around nearly enough. However the most formidable part of her upbringing was, she was sexually abused by ‘family friends’ and relatives on multiple occasions starting from the age of just nine. At twelve she was sent away to middle Tennessee to live with her father, there she realised her passion, she began giving speeches in front of her church and ultimately came to the conclusion that she wanted to speak for a living. Without her parents divorce Winfrey might have never figured out her passion of speaking to people until it was too late, this was a hidden advantage in the making of her success. However all too soon she had to leave the comfort of her father’s home where she could pursue her interest and journey back to her mother, where she was sadly yet again
Those girls will appreciate Oprah for the rest of their lives because she gave them an opportunity they originally would not have had. Now more and more girls are going to school and getting the education they deserve. Without the help of Oprah, the school system would still be down and many girls would be at home doing the chores. Oprah did not make the education system perfect. There is still room for improvement. However, she gave hundreds of children a life changing opportunity. Oprah remembers her rough childhood, but the one thing she loved the most was how she was able to go to school. She understands what those children in Africa are going through and that is why she is so compelled to
She set up campaigns and looked to teach kids to be who they wanted to be. She also protested and spoke publicly to others about segregation. A Biography.com editor stated, ““She founded the Family for Better Lives foundation and also contributes to her alma mater, Tennessee State University. In September 2002, Oprah was named the first recipient of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.” She wanted kids and adults to become who they wanted to be without the hate and discrimination from others. She knew from experience as a child that what she wanted to be was not possible according to people she was around. She had to overcome hate and fear of failing as well as her family not supporting her in the beginning. She also faced a death of her infant child. The same article as earlier states, “she has a half-sister named Patricia. Oprah's mother gave birth to a baby girl in 1963. At the time, Oprah was 9 years old, and living with her father. Lee put the child up for adoption because she believed that she wouldn't be able to get off public assistance if she had another child to care for. Patricia lived in a series of foster homes until she was 7 years old.” She even had family members that she had never met until later in her life that she once said that she knew that they would’ve been the ones to support her. Although, she

...rience and even though Oprah Winfrey has a difficult past, she never gave up on her dreams. So she is one of the most influential African American women in this country. I admire her dedication to her show and to what she believes in and what I take out of her life and worldview is that we should never give up or give in to what we believe.
