Dr. Efraim Zuroff is a Nazi hunter who started the organization Operation Last Chance which focuses on punishing Nazi war criminals while offering monetary rewards. Dr. Zuroff writes about his experiences as a Nazi hunter in his book Operation Last Chance: One Man’s Quest to bring Nazi Criminals to Justice which came out in 2009. Dr. Zuroff discussed this by talking about how the Holocaust could possibly be presented in other countries. The specific example he used is saying that what the president of Iran simply got on television and told people that the Holocaust never happened it was all a stunt that was created. Due to the president being a respected figure in society everyone will believe him. Also due to the platform used the country will also believe him. This is an example of the spiral of silence theory. In this theory small people who are not able to get inside the media are neglected. Of course in any country where the Jewish community is not the majority they have the chance to be forgotten or silenced by the media. As a minority group there is many things that a group may experience and it may be something that is extremely important and the rest of the world may need to be made aware of it but, it will never happen because that’s not what the majority opinion is. Zuroff’s presentation we knew what the agenda would be based on the setting at the Holocaust Museum and the flyer which promoted his book. His book focuses on bringing Nazi’s to justice and his speech primarily focused on that as a result. Throughout his speech the audience was able to learn the process Dr. Zuroff goes through in order to detain Nazi criminals. The presenter did not focus on any Nazi criminals who realized the mistakes they made instead it focused on strictly the bad guys who still stand by the things that they did years ago. That does not mean that all Nazi criminals feel no remorse for their actions it was just that they were not recognized in this particular presentation. This is the meaning behind agenda setting theory, the media only focuses on what they deem important. The things they find not important will come at the very end or will be buried into a bunch of other stuff so you may not even realize that it is there. Dr. Zuroff also mentioned in his presentation some examples of agenda setting theory that he has witnessed throughout his career. In the case of Sakic the Croatian Nazi criminal mentioned above people saw him as a hero.
