There is little doubt that a more extensive on-line education system would benefit extremely overcrowded campuses like Cal State Northridge. Although short-term costs may deter colleges from implementing distance learning programs initially, many colleges could save money in the long run. With the technology available, universities should make more efforts to offer more on-line classes. Distance learning is becoming more and more prevalent across campuses and is likely to continue to grow. In this paper, I will address recent criticism of the distance learning process and present material in support of this increasing phenomenon.
Distance learning is taught in several ways. Originally, distance, or “Independent learning, a descendant of correspondence study, used printed materials and mail-in assignments to provide access to geographically isolated individuals” (Miller). This, however, has been replaced by on-line classes with the advent of the Internet. Mathew Mariani describes the most common approach in an article comparing an on-line course with a traditional in-classroom lecture. The material for the course is the same but it is presented via streaming video. For the on-line course, the lecture was recorded with a digital camera and downloaded by students from their personal computers. As Mariani states, “The video plays in a small window, and a slide show recreating classroom visual aids displays in a larger window. The slides advance in sync with the video lecture.” According to a study reported by Scott Dellana on performance factors, “. . .courses with the on-line option have been found to be as effective as the traditional course.”

From the meager beginnings of a bastard child born out of wedlock, to one man heralding the power of friendship to the most powerful man in an early republic, Alexander Hamilton proved that what would come to be known as the American dream can be realized by anyone. Native or not; rich or poor; with the drive to realize your dreams, you can achieve them. Hamilton made great advances toward what we know as America today and left behind a legacy that has too commonly become forgotten.
Alexander Hamilton was a bastard son, orphan, immigrant, political scientist, soldier, and the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States of America who transformed not only the country’s banking system but also left a rich legacy that changed America forever. A forgotten founding father, he wrote his way out of poverty at fourteen and later became George Washington’s aide-de-camp and a respected soldier before becoming apart of the first cabinet of the United States. Hamilton not only had a notorious political career, but also personal life, which captivated Americans and heavily influenced his career. Alexander Hamilton’s early life, revolutionary years, years in public service and the cabinet as well as his scandal and devastating
On January 11, 1757, a baby was born in the British West Indies. That baby would soon be known as Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers. In the future, he would be known as a federalist, a lawyer, a lieutenant colonel, and a graduate of King’s College, now Columbia University. He would be known largely for his advancements in the American economy, his humble orphan beginning, and, later, his face being printed on the American ten dollar bill. Alexander Hamilton was important to American history for many reasons including, but not limited to, the fiscal policies and a long held feud with Thomas Jefferson.
“There is a certain enthusiasm in liberty, that makes human nature rise above itself, in acts of bravery and heroism.”1 These words, expressed by Alexander Hamilton, contain the true meaning of freedom and its value, the real purpose of life when there is a cause to fight for. Our country was built by the effort of those who fought for freedom and justice, those who gave everything for a noble cause. The history of this country, embraces the exploits of the many heroes who forged this nation, a land of freedom. While studying the history of America, I was amazed by the life of Alexander Hamilton, who was one of the most important leaders of our nation. The purpose of this
Born in the British West Indies, Alexander Hamilton was a bright and talented young man. In 1772, he moved to the mainland to attended King’s College in New York City. Soon after, he quickly embarked on an extraordinary career. Between his arrival in America and his death, Alexander Hamilton contributed greatly to establish our governmental framework. He fought under George Washington in the Revolutionary war and was a member of the Continental Congress. He was an advocate for the ratification of the Constitution and established a prestigious law career. He then served as the nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury. Hamilton was always one step ahead, his leadership skills and intelligence demonstrated to be valuable in his political path.
The fame of Alexander Hamilton is electrifying to view where someone who is no longer living has left such a great legend for people of all ages. Hamilton’s lifestyle, accomplishments, struggles that were conquered, and journey he experienced, has had a phenomenal effect over our society then and even now today. We see Hamilton daily on the ten-dollar bill, and his fame has risen immaculately in the past two years. While Hamilton may have had to overcome some obstacles along the way, he is not only a hero, but a legend that lives on and will never die.
Did you know that Alexander Hamilton is on the 10 dollar bill? The american revolution started when the english redcoats fired into a crowd of unarmed innocent people. The news spread around america quicker than it got to the king. This was a very big point in history. Alexander Hamilton grew up on the island of Nevis, British West Indies on January 1755 or 1747. During the revolution Hamilton was appointed first secretary of the treasury where he helped a lot with the debt that the revolution caused. In 1777 hamilton became George Washington's assistant. Hamilton was also promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the Continental Army. When he was washington's assistant he wrote a lot of washington's letters and wrote reports on
Throughout Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby,” the role of women can be examined to demonstrate anti-feminism. Initially, Daisy is viewed as an innocent, loving character, but once her true motives are revealed, it is clear that she is very corrupt, desiring only money and power. This is used to show the stereotypical female who lives under the man for his possessions, and lacks the self-respect to stand against the opposite gender. She is not the only female to act like this, there are many, but her case is the most important because it directly influences all of the main characters. Gatsby is also portrayed as a stereotype: the boy who wants his true love and will do anything and everything to get her, even be accused of murder. Once each character
For the first time ever in America, during the 1920s, a shift in the gender norms occurred. The decade was marked by the breakdown of the traditions governing women by the ratification of the 19th amendment, causing the idea of the new woman to become widespread. Also, during this time, a fantastic novel, The Great Gatsby, recognizes the rapidly changing social dynamic. F. Scott Fitzgerald both criticizes and praises the struggle between the coexisting traditional and new woman image by the flawed and interesting female characters, and the relationships with others they have. By exposing a variety of taboo at the time, Fitzgerald accurately captures the disturbance of the traditional expectations of women. During this turbulent time, the novel demonstrates the issues circulating the American public has surrounding the shift in gender because The Great Gatsby deals with the consequences of female emancipation in a misogynistic society.
During the 1920’s, inequality for women was not uncommon. Woman were mostly dependant on the men, they weren’t treated as equals, most women were looked at as objects instead of actual human beings, and all women had a stereotype that followed them, no matter what. This book is a great example of the life of a woman in the 1920’s and it really shows how most women were treated. It’s a very realistic portrayal of the life of a women back then and it gives a real insight as to how life for a women was in the 1920’s. It also shows how much women have advanced and how far we’ve really come. The Great Gatsby has many examples of feminism and explains the life of a woman in the 1920’s.
Women are seen from a biased point of view in pop culture as they are often criticized and portrayed in degrading ways. The Great Gatsby takes place in the early part of the 20th century which is also known as the Roaring 20's. In regards to feminism, the women in The Great Gatsby are mainly depicted as second class to men. The story gives readers an insight of the roles that gender played in past World War I America. In The Great Gatsby, the author Scott Fitzgerald shines a light on the submissiveness of females toward males during the Roaring Twenties by giving the women in the novel an unfair representation as they are often identified as passive or negative “objects”.
Studies are highlighting that there has been increased consumption of services offered by logistical service providers in supply chains. A logistics service provider is used synonymously to refer to carriers, forwarding and transportation companies, as well as, third party logistic providers and logistic service companies. Logistic service providers are significant actors in the supply chain as they handle substantial shares of their customers’ activities. Logistics service providers provide their customers with traditional logistics services such as transportation and warehousing and supplementary services such as order administration and track-and-trace services. Logistics performance in the supply chain such as lead-time, flexibility and on-time delivery should be a shared responsibility as they are created by customers, suppliers and logistics service providers. The increasing competitiveness of the business environment demands that logistics service providers should develop skills in the analysis and reporting of performance data to guarantee success with their customers.
