The Novel, One night @ the Call Center, is written by Chetan Bhagat (A modern Indian writer). Chetan Bhagat is seen as the voice of a young generation in India than an author. The book has won the national best-selling award in India and has also resulted in a huge blockbuster movie. The book is set in the suburbs of Delhi, India, where six people working together at a call center have a life changing night. The six character deal with the daily pressures of a call center life while experiencing serious personal problems. What becomes clear during the course of the book is that the call center job is just a small step in their lives until they have found what they want to do. Chetan wrote this book to inspire India’s young generation to change their country by aspiring higher goals in their lives. Chetan introduces the role of god as an awakening to the characters in the book. He picked the fast growing call center business in India to depict the aspirations and problems of the young generation. This book brings out Chetan’s Point of view, themes revolving around the young generation of India, and consists of deeply troubled characters.

Chetan’s story telling is in First Person. Chetan starts the book by saying, “My one particular ex – boss. My life when I worked for him living hell, and was probably the worst phase of my life,” (Page XII). Chetan said that his ex- boss gave him inspiration and thanked him in this book. “I chose to tell the story through Shyam’s eyes. This is because, after I met him, I found him the most similar to me as a person.”(Page 10.) The narration was impacted by Shyam’s point of View as Shyam had an innocent way to look at the world around him. Shyam also impacts the story by having his own opinions...

Oh my’ my whole body shook as I found it difficult to balance. I fell down on my knees. Her face shone, and bright sunlight entered our compartment in one stroke. I looked up at her as she smiled. She had an open book next to her. It was the English translation of a holy text. My eyes focused on a few lines on the page that lay open: Always think of Me, become My devotee, worship Me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are my very dear friend.”(Page 275 and 276). Chetan ends the book by saying that the person who told the story to him was GOD.
