One Day in September by Kevin MacDonald The film One Day in September, by Kevin MacDonald, is a documentary film of Palestinian terrorists and the invasion of Israeli athletes. The film begins with an opening sequence of a public relations commercial for Munich. This commercial is showing people in a gorgeous land setting and a girl on a swing. MacDonald used music to link the footages together with the Music of 1972. He used the interviews to show us and help us understand what was going through peoples minds at the time. It helped us understand any type of contrast as best it could, to help people put together in their minds exactly what was taking place. The news reports showed us the events going on as if it was 1972. It also showed us the inefficeincy of live international news broadcasts and the effect it had. It shows us the amateur use of news and communications. All of the archival footage helped us understand all of the emotions and people that took part of this event. The use of first person narraration was used by Jamal AL Gashey in his interview. We listen to Jamal because he took part of the terror in the killing of the Isreali atheletes. The use of inetrviews helped link together what happened exactly. It bothers me that he wanted those people sitting in an Olympic stadium while there were eleven hostages held at gunpoint a few blocks away. During this sequence we understand what is going on with the Isreali atheletes and see a historical and tragical event taking place. We see peoples lives at risk, whom these pople haven't even done anything wrong. Yet, McKay wants to continue because Germany had an Olympics to hold, and truly upsets me that he is not ruled with compassion but greed. The overall message that MacDonald conveyed was the differences between people and what they do. This historical documentary taught me a lot about the event that took place in Munich during the 1972 Olympics. Because of the concrete images and interviews I learned of terrorism and its effect on the world. It showed me that not all human responses are humane, they are not wise, and they are not compassionate. I was extermely surprised of the montage of the dead atheletes and the Olymipcs, backed with rock music. I think that this montage was absolutely perfect for leaving you with
