The Olmec ball sports and our ball sports are very different, but yet the same. Modern day ball sports and the Olmec ball sport are both played on courts, where theirs were stone, ours can be concrete, asphalt, wood, or grass. In both modern day and Olmec, there was a winner and a loser, the winner on both sports received trophies. The only difference in that is that their loser was often times decapitated or killed. The trophies of the winners were buried with the person when they died for the Olmec. Depending on where you were or the religion, the captain and the team both got killed. Could you imagine that? Most of the religions only allowed two to three people on the court for each team and they could only be males. The sport was too rough for women to be playing. Social-class played an important role in sports. It dictated who could participate in what sports and to what level of participation. The terminal factor associated with social class was money. Money was the means to obtain the equipment necessary to partake in the sports. Without money, one couldn't perform organized sports. Football is said to have originated from the Han Dynasty in China, from around two or three B.C. Although there is no specific creator of Football, there is evidence that the Chinese ‘dribbled’ balls made of various different animal skins filled with light-weight materials. After dribbling the ball, they were to kick the ball into a small net. Along with being a leisure activity for the ancient Chinese, evidence has been found that they also used it for training their vast army, the only difference in the training was the height of the nets. The balls were to be kicked into a net that was thirty feet or higher off the ground in order to make the Chinese army ready to move and also to make them stronger in the legs.
