There is different forms of transportation that can be used to transport oil, trains, pipelines, tanker trucks, oil tankers. No matter how big or small a oil spill is is it can still affect animals and their environment whether in the water or on land. Shipping isn't always the safest way to transport oil but it is one of the most efficient. Oil ships and ports where the oil is transported to provide more than 7 million people a job worldwide. Each one of these comes with its own risk, cost, convenience and environmental impact. There are 1.5 million miles of pipelines in the world, about 185,000 of those miles are in America. A positive of pipelines is that they can move amounts of oil continuously 24/7. Weather also doesn't affect this form of transporting oil, since they are underground. Although the construction of any pipeline can be very destructive to the environment, earthquakes can always happen and damage the pipeline. Over long periods of time pipelines can corrode, this is added cost because they often need to be repaired as they get older. Trains are an alternative to pipelines, 1 train can move 100,000 barrels of oil. A downside to this type of transport is that when derailments happen they pos a large cost to clean up, take the derailment in Quebec in 2013 it cost 200 million dollars. The last form of transport is tanker trucks, by trucking it allows oil to get to more remote places. It cost a lot more to transport oil this way and can oil move a third of a what a train
