Of Mice & Men Alternate Ending George aimed the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of the gun close to the back of Lennies head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied, Georges heart was pounding, Lennie was still looking across the river trying to picture his rabbits as he was told to do. George suddenly jerked his hand away as Lennie spoke. "Don stop now George, tell, tell about the rabbits and the fatta the lan" But George didn't answer, instead he raised the Luger and pulled the trigger the barrel turned creating a soft click which echoed in the small clearing. "George I dun a bad thing" "I know Lennie but it don matter now" George thought for a moment about his stake and how close he was to being his own boss. But it all seemed a distant dream now. A voice close by returned him to his senses. "Lennie you gotta go" "George I don wanna leave you" "Just go you crazy son of a bitch" Lennie spun round and George threw the gun away, Lennie looked at it and returned his attention to George, he looked at George who didn't look back at him and couldn't look him in the eye. "George can we have brown rabbits?" "No Lennie, we can't get no rabbits" "Why not George?" But again George didn't answer he was lost in his thoughts, he was contemplating telling Lennie to run, but then again should he stop Curley and turn Lennie in to the Sheriff. His decision was made as Slim burst through the brush. He yelled back to Curley. "I've got im Curl he here" Slim stared at Lennie as George approached the gun, he picked it up and pointed it straight at Sli... ... middle of paper ... ...r is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool. On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley sid eof the water is lined with trees - the willows fresh and green with every spring. The bodies of two men one short and dark haired the other huge and muscular lay motionless in the pool in the clearing. Only the tops of the Gabilan mountains caught the fading sunshine after it had gone from the valley. A water snake slipped along the pool, it's head held up like a little periscope. The reeds jerked slightly in the current. Far off toward the highway a man shouted something, and another man shouted back. The sycamore limbs rustled under a little wind that died immediately.
