Please list any outstanding leadership experiences that you have participated in and describe your role in that experience (i.e., ASB, PLUS, Band, Drama, Yearbook, etc.). I have participated in the Odyssey of the Mind Club in grades six and seven. In Odyssey of the Mind the seven team members all have to learn the value of teamwork, exercise their creativity, and be able to think on their feet. This year I opted out, for the fact that both my grandparents were battling cancer and I have an obligation to be a part of their return to full health. I played the part of the newspaper, showing the subtitles for the storyline. In my 2nd year, we were assigned the long term problem, Furs, Fins, Feathers, and Friends. We acted out an informational skit about cyberbullying, with the main characters being an Overweight Pufferfish, an Emo Emu, and a Super Slow Sloth, that were all getting bullied by the antagonist, an evil spider-bully. In this skit I portrayed the part of the overweight Pufferfish, a fundamental part in our skit. There is also a second part of OOTM, Spontaneous. Spontaneous is the fast pace, quick thinking exercise that is a fundamental part of the full OOTM experience. Spontaneous can be anything, Verbal, Verbal Hands-on, or just hands-on. In verbal spontaneous, you either have to make up a story about pictures, figure out the right thing to say, or even try to find words that flow well together. It's harder than you think. . 4-H is an extraordinary program that integrates boys and girls ages five to nineteen into a fully interactive club that teaches responsibility, the importance of hard work, and sparks interest in some subjects that normally kids wouldn’t even want to learn about. I have been going to 4-H meetings since I was two years old because my older sister joined when she was five. She recently had to drop out in behalf of the amount of homework the high school gave her. I am still in 4-H, and this is my ninth year in the club, I have immensely enjoyed every minute. New projects pop up and take flight, immersing children, young and old, in the wonders of science, sports, farming, and much more. Through all of my years I have been in a great deal of projects ranging from geocaching, Art Journaling, Archery, Sewing, Knitting, Cooking and Baking, Chickens, Primary, Leadership, Art Appreciation, Photography, and many more. For two of my year in 4-H I ran the post of Hostess, where I greeted everyone who came to the meetings. To get elected, we had to write a speech, and present it in front of the entire club, to then be voted on to get the role as leader. Briefly describe what it means to be a leader.
